1. 3 Projects We have 5 class periods remaining in this nine week grading period!
2. Book Review Check out 2 sample reviews: here (scroll down to review written by Ryan) and here (scroll to the review of Feed titled, Satire may soar over the heads of young readers). Project 1 On a book you’ve read this nine weeks—not the same one you did the book talk on. Begins with a compelling introduction—a HOOK and thesis sentence that gives your opinion of the book. Includes a summary with enough details that show you read the book but that doesn’t include spoilers. Ends with a final opinion about the book.
3. Narrative Essay We’ve worked on the prewriting in your Writer’s Notebook when we brainstormed places, then memories, then did quick writes about those memories. Project 2 Shares three specific memories tied to ONE PLACE. Draft the three separate memories. Start in medias res (in the middle of the action) SHOW us that moment—in present tense as if it’s happening now. Include sensory details (sights, sounds, smells…) Use vivid words
4. Independent Reading Remember: You’re supposed to have read SIX BOOKS —the equivalence of six books, according to our formula. Project 3 READ. READ. READ!
