2. For this project I decided I’d do the bedroom of a college student as an
inventory. This room with ample spacing has the possibility of hosting
many activities other than sleeping. Here you can see there is a couch
a television, a bed, and in the corner a computer. All things which are
essential for students in college. (Or at least we would like to think
they’re essential)
3. We’ll start off with the work section of the room. Here you find a book
shelf, a computer along with the printer, and ample supplies such as
highlighters, staples, scissors, and a calendar.
This area is used to study, read, write papers, and plan out the student’s
entire week schedule and at times schedule for the month as well.
4. To the student, this is an
essential area of the room.
This is where she places her
weekly assignments which are
due, along with her calendar of
the month. Having a visual
reminder of things that are due
helps her stay on top of all she
has to do. She also makes
sure to place this at the
entrance of the room so that
she can see it every time she
walks in or walks out.
5. When you take a closer
look at the computer you
can see a variety of things,
all which the student finds
essential. You can see
post it’s highlighters, her
master calendar along
with her portable calendar,
a few books, and some
school papers. While
many may say the area
seems cluttered she
explains that to her it’s
perfect because she
knows exactly where
everything is.
6. The book shelf reveals a lot about the
student. Here you can find many nursing
reference books along with review books,
a drug guide, some blank CD’s, an alarm
clock, books for her reading pleasure such
as “My Sister’s Keeper”, and old class
textbooks. If you take a close look you’ll
notice a bottle of holy water which the
student keeps visible at all times to help
protect her.
7. When you work and go to school
full time it may be hard to find time
to get rest. But any chance she
gets the student takes advantage of
this area of her room. Her bed.
You can see that she decorates her
bed with her favorite stuffed
animals, the teddy bear which she’s
had since she was 4, and a blanket
of her favorite university.
“Once I lay down, it’s the end
because it’s so comfortable that its
hard to get up.”
8. She keeps a dream catcher by
the door because she considers
herself to be superstitious. She
keeps it by the door and if she
ever wakes up in the middle of
the night she walks to it and
runs her fingers through the
feathers to prevent any bad
dreams from arising. I asked
her why she didn’t buy a bigger
one or why it’s not kept by her
bed and she says that it’s a
dream catcher she made
herself and that keeping it by
the door makes her feel like all
the negative energy won’t come
in because it’s at the entrance
blocking it from doing so.
9. Now we go to the play section of
the room. Here you can find a
TV, a DVD player, along with
many DVD’s. While many
students may think that having a
TV in their room is a major
distraction, she feels that it’s
necessary, at least to her. She
sleeps with the TV on every
night because the soft noise
helps lull her to sleep. Having a
TV and DVD player is also great
to have when people come over
because it’ll give people a way to
be entertained.
10. Next to her bed, this is her favorite part of the room. The couch. She
can lounge around while reading, or watching TV. Many times it’s
covered by clothes, she says, when she’s too lazy to put them away.
But when it’s clear, it’s her favorite place to relax and listen to her iPod
after a long stressful day.
