Homer's great literary classic, The Odyssey, represents and illustrates many emotional and mental
values. All of these values can be classified under three different main themes that are constant
throughout the epic tale. These themes are: A boy's struggle to be a man, a king's struggle to reclaim
his kingdom, and a man's struggle to return home. As one reads this book it will become more and
more evident to them that a man's struggle to get home is the most important theme throughout
Homer's adventure.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus's longing for his home and family is what drives the story. That is his

Some of the obstacles included the Lotus–Eaters, Cyclops, Sirens, Scylla, and Charybdis. In many
ways these creatures and temptations represent all obstacles that get in the way of goals. They are
the classic feat that the protagonist, Odysseus, must overcome to get to his goal, home. One of the
most fearsome, brutish obstacles was Polyphemus, the Cyclops. Polyphemus ends up destroying a
large portion of Odysseus's crew as described in lines 746–752. 'Neither reply nor pity came from
him, but in one stride he clutched at my companions and caught two in his hands like squirming
puppies to beat their brains out, spattering the floor. Then he dismembered them and made his
meal&#8230;'; This descriptive brutality shows you just how much a gigantic, intimidating
obstacle Polyphemus was. Another one of these obstacles was Scylla. Scylla's attack was described
in lines 1338–1343. ' Then Scylla made her strike, whisking six of my best men from the ship. I
happened to glance aft at ship and oarsmen and caught sight of their arms and legs dangling high
overhead.'; This is yet another grim reminder of just how determined Odysseus is to get to his home
and family.
Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus is warned many times of the perils and difficulty of his journey.
All through these times it seems that Odysseus will never get home, but he never loses hope. In
Book 11, Odysseus ventures into hell to meet with the great prophet, Teiresias. Teiresias prophesizes,

My Five Themes Essay
My five themes are consistency, restorative, relator, strategic, and responsibility. Relator is
enjoying close relationships with people. Also, being able to feel what others are feeling.
Strategic is being able to create an alternative way to do things. Also, finding the best path, or way
to do things. Responsibility is being able to take psychological ownership of what I do. Also,
taking the lead in anything I do. Restorative means that I can find other ways to do things if one

I don't have this one, but I think working with someone who has this strength would be great
because they will always try to make peace, and avoid chaos in any situation that may occur in the
office. I also think having the strength adaptability would be a great strength to have because you

The theme I chose for this novel is about a man searching for his identity and not sure about where to
turn to define himself.
The novel the invisible man is the story of a man who is searching for his happenings coming up
and now believes he is invisible to society. The narrator makes clear that he is invisible clearly
because people do not really see him . The narrator flashes back into his own youth, recalling his
judgment. He goes back to say that he lives underground, channeling electricity aside from
Monopolated Light and Power Company by edging his apartment . The narrator describes a vision
he had while he was listening to Louis Armstrong, exploring back into the history of slavery. He his
introduced in an intangible voice , someone who has lost his specification through the society .
The narrator casts back on an earlier period of the 20th century, encouraging that a newly
educated black class felt guilty of a past that was no flaw of its own. The narrator's granddad
emerged to be in this line hoping to forget the history of slavery, but on his deathbed reveals that
the struggle against white oppression is still continuing . At first, the narrator cannot grasp that his
grandfather was fighting against oppression in his work he was compliant to white men. But as he

After reading and analysing numerous poems, I have chosen two examples of the famous Irish Poet,
Seamus Heaney's work: 'Follower' and
'Mid–Term Break'. Both poems relate to the poet's past, and are certainly associated with a specific
'loss' of a loved one – one a literal loss, and the other a subconscious loss.
'Mid–Term Break', which I found to be a very touching and poignant poem, describes the loss of
the poet's younger brother, Christopher when Heaney was a child, hence the poem is of a
childhood tragedy as well as a loss. It's set in three places – the introduction is situated in the college

Also, we acknowledge that this isn't just any ordinary funeral – someone very dear has been lost, a
small treasure; a small treasure who's absence has caused the strongest of rocks to crumble into an
emotional state.
A double meaning is presented in the final line of the second stanza:

"Big Jim Evans saying it was a hard blow"
The 'hard blow' may be referring to the actual 'blow' that killed
Christopher (as he was killed by a car), or the fact that it's a 'hard blow' to the family. Either way,
one fact becomes apparent: the Heaney family have the support and love of everyone around them,
but that doesn't counteract for the tragic loss of Christopher – it may help clean the wound, but the
scar will forever be visible. We also attain the knowledge, due to his very 'personal' identity, that Big
Jim Evans is a family friend, and that he himself is shaken by the situation considering his very plain
and yet meaningful comment. Again, the sadness and incredibility of the incident is underlined –
not only family members are grieving.
Another detection of change is seen in the third stanza, and this time it's a very uncomfortable

As they tried to get adjusted in New York City it was very hard for them to do since their families
wanted them to maintain their cultural roots but yet the girls wanted to be like everyone else was

is Lady Macbeth sleeping walking towards the end of the play. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth killed
the king of Scotland (Duncan) and she is feeling guilty for what she has done. Also, she doesn't
like what her husband has done like killing Macduff's whole family. She feels as if she was
responsible for that. In a result of that she ends up sleep walking and eventually killing herself
because she couldn't live with the guilt anymore. The guilt of killing Duncan literally ate at Lady
Macbeth and destroyed her to the point of suicide. Macbeth feels guilty for killing Duncan.

and adultery are all traits that the characters in the novel possess. Myrtle Wilson is one of the two
characters that is murdered in the story. In this conversation between Nick and Gatsby, "'Well, I tried
to swing the wheel–' He broke off and suddenly I guessed the truth. 'Was Daisy driving?' 'Yes'"
Gatsby reveals the truth about who was driving (Fitzgerald 143). This proves that Daisy was
driving when Myrtle was hit and killed. Gatsby is also murdered in the story. George Wilson,
Myrtle's husband, kills Gatsby because he is told that Gatsby is who killed his wife. Hickey
writes, "He shot Gatsby and killed himself," talking about George when he goes to Gatsby's house
in pursuit to Murder Gatsby (4). This proves that George murdered Gatsby. Murder is just one of

John Marsden's novel 'Tomorrow When the War Began' and the 2013 film directed by Brian Percival
'The Book Thief' shares a variety of similar themes that are constantly portrayed throughout these
texts. The 3 main themes that are shared between the novel and film were the theme of war,
friendship, and hope. War is a centered theme that causes characters to develop and mature while the
theme of friendship brought them together, strengthening their bonds and finally, the theme of hope
represented the optimistic ideas of the characters, through literary techniques in the novel and
cinematic effects in the film, the texts successfully exhibited the protagonists overcoming their
ordeals during horrific circumstances. The theme of war is a significant part of both the novel
'Tomorrow When the War Began' and the film 'The Book Thief'. Although these texts are different

Psychology augment my views on human development, First, human development studies the human
condition in societies and is a measure of the wellbeing of individuals. It is usually a part of

feelings. One of the themes that you often occur in lyrical poems and plays is memento mori.
Memento mori means "remember the dead" (pg.162). This saying was created because of the
massive amount of death that happens around this time, such as the black death and constant battles.
Not only does the saying apply to death in battle, but it also applies to those who have not excepted

student's question "I wonder if it's that simple" triggers readers' curiosities, since the assignment
