10. I have seen too many beginners handicap themselves from the very start

11. because of the wrong approach.

12. This usually translates into discouragement, frustration and, ultimately, resignation.

13. And I don't want this to happen to you.

14. What does it take to learn drums?

15. There are three main requirements:

16. Good instructions

17. Commitment

18. and realistic expectations

19. I know I'm talking a lot about how learning drums is not easy,

20. but with the right approach you can definitely make it much easier.

21. It's all in the right approach.

22. The right approach means a solid, realistic and committed plan.

23. In other words - well-structured lessons.

24. Every time you sit down to learn, you need a very clear concept of what you're going to do.

25. One of the biggest mistakes novices make is that they search for tidbits of information

26. all over the internet and learn a bit here and a bit there.

27. That is not what I call a well-structured learning plan.

28. It's actually a surefire way to develop bad habits and eventually get discouraged.

29. My advice - don't do it.

30. Far better way is to find quality lessons and stick with them.

31. This will pay big dividends in terms of improving your skills and saving your time.

32. You will definitely learn faster and better.

33. The only question is. Where to find quality lessons?

34. I have certainly seen my share of drum lessons, from books, to DVDs, online lessons, and software.

35. I can say without hesitation that most of them don't deliver what they promise.
