1. G and J Spanish orthography course
G and J have the same sound so they can be mistaken, here are the rules of G and J
Words containing the letters -gen- group are written with g.
Look at the examples: origin, genius, general.
Exceptions: eggplant, oblivious.
•Las palabras que contienen el grupo de letras -gen- se escriben con g.

Are written with j go with words derived from other leading go j.
For example:
– cash form: drawer, box, cash …
– Light form: lightness, lightened, very light …

- de ligero formamos: ligereza, aligerado, ligerísimo...
J are written with words ending in -aje. For example: language, travel.
•Se escriben con j las palabras que terminan en -aje. Por ejemplo: lenguaje, viaje.
G are written with words ending in -ogía, -ógico, -ógica.
For example: neurology, neurological, neurological.
•Se escriben con g las palabras terminadas en -ogía, -ógico, -ógica.
Por ejemplo: neurología, neurológico, neurológica.
2. G are written with words that have the -agi- groups -igi. For example: digest.
Exceptions: words derived from other leading j. For example: short (derived from bass), son
(Derived from child).

Executive. For example: geography, legion, army.

Verbs whose infinitives end in -ger, -gir are written g before e and i in all
times. For example: we take, you took (the verb catch); elijes, they chose (the verb choose).
Exceptions: knitting, unraveling, gnashing.
•Los verbos cuyos infinitivos terminan en -ger, -gir se escriben con g delante de e y de i en todos sus tiempos. Por
ejemplo: cogemos, cogiste (del verbo coger); elijes, eligieron (del verbo elegir).
Excepciones: tejer, destejer, crujir.
J are written with the verb tenses carrying this letter in its infinitive. For instance:
we travel, you are traveling (the verb travel); We worked, work (from the verb work).
•Se escriben con j los tiempos de los verbos que llevan esta letra en su infinitivo. Por ejemplo: viajemos, viajáis
(del verbo viajar); trabajábamos, trabajemos (del verbo trabajar).
