The South American oil and gas market is a
rapidly developing market. It produces 10
million barrels of oil per day - accounting for
12.9% of the world’s production. Further to this
it has around 124 billion barrels of proved
reserves – accounting for a 10% share of the
world’s reserves. This is without taking into
account the vast reserves off the coast of Cuba
which were last evaluated at around 24 billion
barrels.
During the last quarter of 2008 world oil prices
have taken a massive hit, hovering around $40
per barrel. Despite this, oil prices are predicted
to rise in 2009. Further to this recent forecasts
have shown that South America’s GDP will
also continue to rise.
The exploration, exploitation and production of
oil in South America is still at an early stage
and requires much development. Crucial to this
are the industry professionals. For companies
to evolve in this ever changing industry they

skills that are so very vital for the future
prosperity of the region.
