The document discusses various music videos the author has watched to gather inspiration for their own music video. They note elements they liked from each video, such as close-up shots of hands in a car representing escapism, the use of classic cars, desaturated lighting and colors giving an old-fashioned look, narratives that are intertwined with the artist's performance, coffee shop locations, and overlapping clips reflecting thoughts. The author aims to incorporate these elements like classic cars, lighting effects, interwoven narratives and performances, and coffee shop locations in their own video.

Influences
1. The video’s that I looked at are:
•The Reason – Hoobastank
•Wherever You Will Go – The Calling
•Broken – Lifehouse
•Collide – Howie Day
•Pedal To The Metal - Kazzer
2. I really like the songs Broken
by Lifehouse and The Reason
by Hoobastank. These video’s
were released over 5 years
ago so not as technologically
advanced as today but I
decided to look carefully at
their videos as I liked the
simplicity of cinematography
used in them. In relation to
cinematography I found I
really liked the close up on
the hands in the car either
tuning the key or the radio
up/down symbolising
escapism. Something that I
would like to feature in my
video. It is simple and I found
really effective in these
videos.
3. Again whilst looking at these videos
along with Wherever You Will go by
The Calling and Pedal to the Metal by
Kazzer, 2 other videos that I really like
is the use of classic cars. As these
bands are in the same genre as the
song I chose to do, they really
influenced my decision to add a classic
car to my music video. The car shows a
form of escaping life by driving off, a
message that I would like to
incorporate in my video. I found that
in regards to the cinematography
there is a lot of close up shots of the
car from the front therefore I aim to
add shots of the front of the car in my
video, showing the audience what car
it is.
4. The main thing I really liked about
these video’s is the lighting and
effects placed on the clips, giving a
slightly old fashioned look to the
video as the colouring is de-
saturated. This is something I would
like to add into my music video to
make it look more authentic
especially because I would like to
add flashbacks in my video. The
lighting in the video’s is rather dull,
possibly because something bad has
or is going to happen within the
narrative. I really like this because
the lighting then relates to the
narrative giving the audience an
insight into what may happen.
5. In relation to narrative and performance I really like the video
to Broken by Lifehouse as the artist performance is intertwined
in the narrative, there is no separation as the character in the
narrative is the artist singing. I would really like to have a similar
thing in my video rather than have a completely separate
narrative to the performance.
6. When I watched the video to
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol the
beginning scene was of the
character sat in a coffee shop. I
like the idea of the
artist/character in a coffee shop
as it is a generic place that people
go to sit and think or have a
laugh. I would like to use the
location of a coffee shop in my
video as I think people would be
able to relate to sitting and
thinking about life in a place like
that.
7. From looking at
theses videos I have
found that they
incorporate a green
colour in the
background. I think
this colour works
really well with the
darker colours and
natural lighting used
in the video’s. This
colour is a colour
that I would really
like to use in my
video at some point.
8. I really like the overlapping clips in the video Collide by Howie
Day as I feel it reflects what is happening and what he is thinking
about, something I would like to include in my video.
