Asuncion is the capital city of Paraguay, located in the center of the country surrounded by Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina. The city has a population of over 680,000 people and faces several environmental issues such as inadequate waste disposal, deforestation, loss of wetlands, and water pollution. Asuncion was founded in 1537 and has since dominated Paraguayan society and politics while also becoming an important center for music, poetry and the arts.
