LAURA MARLING
4. Well I, own this field
And I wrote this sky
And I have no reason, to reason with you
I'd be sad that I never held your hand as you were lowered, but I'd understand
that I'd never let it go
I'd be sad that I never held your hand as you were lowered, but I'd understand
that the world does what it does
And you never did learn to let the little things go
And you never did learn to let me be
And you never did learn to let little people grow
And you never did learn how to see
BLACKBERRY STONE
5. But I whisper that I love this man, now and for forever to your soul as it floats out
off the window
To the world that you turned your back on,
To the world that never really let you be,
And I am Laura now, and Laura still,
And you did always say that one day I would suffer.
You did always say that people get their pay.
You did always say that I was going places,
And that you wouldn't have it any other way.
But I couldn't turn my back on a world, for what I like wouldn't let me
But I couldn't turn my back on a world for And I couldn't turn my back on sweet
smelling Blackberry stone
BLACKBERRY STONE
6. It’s about a girl who has been controlled and over powered by
her father.
She has been living unable to be herself and her father never
let her be herself “You never did let learn to let little people grow”
“You did always say that I was going places, and that you wouldn’t have
it any other way”
The lyrics initiate a death and a loss “I’d be sad that I never held
your hand as you were lowered”
So our narrative is about the struggles between a father and
daughter and now with the passing of the father, ‘Laura’ can
now truly be herself “I’m Laura now” and now she can let go
of the control of her father.
OUR INITIAL IDEAS
7. Lyrics, really create an emotional
response, giving great opportunity for
imagery and a powerful narrative
Indie/folk song, with a genre we can
follow, with enough space for our own
creativity.
Personal song as it is in first person
Continuous 3 chord guitar throughout to
follow and cut our shots on, with a subtle
drum beat towards end to build up more
faster cutting.
WHY THIS SONG?
8. Simple, open locations, just Sam and a
guitar.
Possible locations include, Jesmond
Dene forest and bridge areas. Holywell
Dene and open field areas.
Walking through all these areas to
show the journey of the song.
PERFORMANCE/LOCATION
9. PERFORMANCE/LOCATION
Dark lighting with one spotlight on
her performing
As the song includes violin, it could
be silhouettes in the background
playing violin
Goes with the theme of the
song, deep and dark
10. Dark colours
Typical indie clothes
Boots, thick
sock, scarfs, hats, gloves.
Plain jewellery, watch and
a ring.
Subtle dark make up
Guitar
Using the location as a
prop.
Using a symbol motif
throughout –
representing her being
tied down and confined
by her father.
