Formula - IMPIGS
I – Identity : answer in right order?
M – Meaning : Is the meaning as intended?
P – Punctuation : punctuation marks all in?
I – Items : key words missing?
G – Grammar : tenses, singular/plural all in?
S – Spelling : any word copied/spelt
wrongly?
5. Identity
Identity of your answer must be in order.
Q: She won the contest. She practised the piano
diligently.
She practised the piano diligently and won
the contest.
(Wrong order : She won the contest and
practised the piano diligently.)
6. Meaning
Meaning must be intended.
Q: He raised his gun to take aim. He shot the
tiger.
Raising his gun to take aim, he shot the
tiger.
He shot the tiger after taking aim with a
raised gun.
He raised his gun to take aim before
shooting the tiger.
7. Punctuation
When giving quotes.
Quote a word from the passage that means
'very scared'.
The word is 'terrified'.
(Quoting without quotation marks: 'The
word is terrified.')

1. Write down two strengths of Adam's
character.
He was determined and trustworthy.
(NOT tall and athletic)
2. Why did the girl climb the tree when she
saw the tiger?
She climbed the tree to save her life, as she

Alice was ('were' is plural) too playful and
did not study (after 'did' must be base
form) hard for her examinations ('exams'
is a short form).
10. Spelling
Some uncommon words are tested in
comprehension.
What did the author do to prove his point?
He had to redo his entire assignment
(misspelling: 'asignment') to prove that it
was his own work.

Correct the answer given (mistakes are made
obvious so comprehesion knowledge is not
required to answer it).
Q: What does it mean when the writer described
the tiger as 'the sun'?
A: It were orang and gold and so bright.

Q: What does it mean when the writer described

A: It (item) were (grammar) orang
