Cultural Identity Who I Am
I am born of cultural identity but only I am me. Cultural identity is a part of person's self–concept
and self–perception. It is equivalent to nationality, religion, ethnicity, social class, and different
generations. Cultural identity has to do with a person individually or socially. Everyone has a cultural
identity. Knowing her you come from can give you a sense of belonging and a sense of self. My
culture identity is composed of several factors. Cultural identity is a part of who I am. It has
shaped aspects of my personality, my beliefs and values. It is a factor in how I dress, how I behave
and my hopes and dreams for the future. My hijab and my personality shape my cultural identity;
however, my cultural identity portrayed by the media does not influences me as person.
There is saying, "Your veil is your mouth if your tongue is silent." For me that "veil" is my hijab
and it is my "mouth". Ladies in Islamic culture dress modestly. A woman is required to start dressing
modestly at a certain age, typically when she hits puberty. One thing a girl starts wearing, after the
1st grade, is the hijab. The hijab itself symbolizes modesty, privacy, and protection; however, others
see it as an object that represents oppression and terrorism. It means so much more. The hijab, in my
opinion, protects a woman from strangers, especially men. It shows that the woman is off–limits to
all other men besides her husband. It also compels men to focus on the woman's personality and

Who I Am I? Essay
Who am I? It is funny you should ask because I was just asking myself the same question. How
would I define myself In a culture that seems to so easily attach a label to someone or quickly
place people into a category? How would I be able to make you understand my place in the world,
or my relationship to the world that surrounds me? If I want you to understand and see the "real me"
and how I fit into the big picture, I would have to do an immense amount of soul searching. I
would have to choose my ingredients very carefully. First and foremost, I need to gain some insight
for myself into my true identity. Once that is completed, I can begin the dialog that would accurately
describe who I am. Self–perception, that is the key! If a person wants to describe themselves to
someone else, they need to understand who they are. Let me try to paint a picture of who I am in
a way that will hopefully be an accurate picture of the "real me". The following article defines in
certain terms what I believe makes us who we are, and tells a little of the story of who I have
discovered myself to be as I travel along this journey that we call "life".
The Ingredients When describing myself there is a great deal to consider. As a matter of fact, all the
things that make up our identity are very complex and not easily catalogued. The first thing that
comes to mind is that people are a product of their environments. Next, you might say that we are a
combination of the various

Who Am I? And. What It Is My Purpose?
We are all people that were put on this earth for a reason. Rarely, do people actually discover what
that reason is. Along the way, people become lost in the world of society and forget to find
themselves and achieve what they were originally called to do. Society is directing people by
telling them how they should live and what they should do with their life; when in reality, people
should be making the their own ultimate decisions. Humans need to realize that they do have an
individual identity and purpose apart from what society believes. In my opinion, to achieve
sustainable wellness you should be able to unravel your identity by answering the unknowing
questions of "who am I?" and "what is my purpose?" Though I am still searching for the answers
to these questions myself, I am determined and willing to find my purpose aside from society 's
views. The following twelve concepts will each evaluate the questions of "who am I?" and "what
is my purpose?" in regards to the various sections of wellness. By examining each concept and
analyzing myself, I hope to achieve a greater understanding of who I am and what I am called to
accomplish. Mission and purpose are the first of the twelve concepts of wellness. From a young
age, I knew that I wanted to grow up to become an elementary school teacher. Many of my peers
had also been set on teaching elementary school, so I, too, considered that was my purpose. Each
afternoon I would play pretend school by myself, being the student and

Who Are You As A Writer? Essay
When presented with the question, "who are you as a writer?", I was speechless at first. But after
thinking about it, I realized who I am as a writer has been influenced by so many different
sponsors throughout my life and there was not a short, concrete answer. Brandt mentions that
"literacy is sponsored by people, institutions, and circumstances that both make it possible for a
person to become literate and shape the way the person actually acquires literacy." (Brandt 43)
My attitude towards writing has been influenced by teachers, both negatively and positively, by
my mother, and by academic assignments over the years. My answer to the question can only be
answered by a narrative of my writing life. I have convinced myself that I am a terrible writer,
and when presented with a writing assignment, I get anxious instantly. I see writing as a burden
and a huge obstacle that gets placed in my life. Academic writing is not fun, but something I
value due to the fact that we are a grade driven society. When writing, I write to the guidelines in
order to receive points for the requested criteria. The reason being, I gave up on expressing my
own ideas because I had been shut down by so many teachers throughout my education. I tried to
write down what came to my mind and put my own twist on things, but that was not the "right"
way to write papers. In order to make both my teachers and my grades happy, I wrote what they
wanted to hear, and even then I was not to the level they

My Personal Identity Essay
A person's identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests
and surrounding environments are all factors that tend to help shape a person's identity. Some
factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a
person grows up in a family, they are influenced by many aspects of their life. Family and culture
may influence a person's sense of responsibilities, ethics and morals, tastes in music, humor and
sports, and many other aspects of life. Friends and surrounding environments may influence a
person's taste in clothing, music, speech, and social activities. Personal interests are what truly set
individuals apart. An individual is not a puppet...show more content...
Society has had a limited impact on my lifestyle, mostly because I despise trends. The largest trends
I despise are rap and hip–hop and the clothing, attitudes, and type of speech that that type of 'music'
is breeding. I chose to steer away from that crowd, but it may also be because I live my life off of
adrenaline. My high on life is the energy I have when I get my blood pumping, my heart
pounding, and my adrenaline raging. Most aspects of my individuality reflect that very well. I
love hard, aggressive music, and also guns, but my passion in life is extreme sports, whether it be
on a dirt bike, a bmx bike, a snowmobile, or a snowboard. I have a strong set of morals and ethics
that I have partly adopted from my parents, but some are also partly my own. My morals mostly
consist of karma (being kind, caring, helpful, truthful, and considerate to others), not littering
(especially in nature), respecting nature, keeping a clean and welcoming home, success that is
measured with happiness and not possessions, and having strong family ties. I feel that I am very
strongly rounded individual who is going to go far in life. Many people would agree with that,
although some people just think that I am an absolutely crazy person who has a death wish and will
not go anywhere but to the hospital or the morgue. Educational experiences also tend to influence a
person's identity. I have not had too many educational

Reflection Paper On Who I Am
Reflective essay
The reason I am who I am is obviously from my origin. My tribe is one of the strongest ethnic
groups in the Arab world. However, I choose to believe the reason I am who I am comes from
nurture. I was always raised and treated in good Muslim household when I was a child, my parents
always insured a healthy and stable life and education that I can have. I studied five years in China,
in an international school in the Fijian province. Those five years had the largest impact on my life
so far. I was living a completely different life, and getting use to a completely different culture. It's
true they're both in the same continent, however they have different lifestyles.
When I was in Saudi Arabia from the period I was born till 10 years old, I was a different person
completely. I was terrible in school work and I was a bully. It was one of the worst experience in my
life, because being a bully is just cruel. When I first moved to china,...show more content...
The reason I tried that, was because 9th grade was my last year in China, so I wanted to live up to
the most. I even broke a record in a stamina test in physical education, the test was called "pacer
test". which ultimately bases on stamina and the way it measures your ability in stamina was to
make you run 50 feet and back in a certain time. And every time you ran 50 feet it would count
one, however the tricky part was that it would shorten the time length for each 50 feet you ran,
and those were called levels. The first time I tried the pacer test I had a score of 19 in 6th grade, but
the last time I had the pacer test in 9th grade I had a score of 100. no one believed my score
including myself. I was also a chairman in the model united nations in my school's conference
which was one of the happiest moments of my life. Overall I had some ups and downs in 9th grade,
however I can easily say it was the best year of my

A Poem Essay: Who Am I?
Who am I?
I am a tall girl with chestnut hair, forest green eyes and sun–tanned skin. My physique sets me apart
from the 7.4 billion other people on our planet. If, however, I were an identical twin, physical
characteristics alone would not suffice to distinguish between my sister and me. Even though we
would look the same, we would clearly be two different people. Therefore, we can conclude that a
mere description of our physique cannot be considered a universal and comprehensive response to
the question at hand, as it neglects other aspects of our identity.
Our identity – encompassing numerous elements of being, among which: family, profession, culture,
religion, sexuality, personality and emotions – is of unimaginable complexity, such that in a
metaphorical sense it may be portrayed as infinite....show more content...
may be answered by the following statement: I am infinity. This holds true from a bio–mathematical
approach and a socio–cultural perspective, as well as in a metaphorical sense and in relationship to
time. However, an element of concern with this definition is, that as a model answer to all, it would
defeat a sense of uniqueness sought by individuals who try to distinguish themselves from their
surroundings using the aforementioned question. Specifically, if I am infinity, and You are infinity
(in the instance when you define yourself as I am infinity), then language alone cannot highlight the
differences between you and me. Thus, the sheer word infinity would be deemed an insufficient
response to the essay question; unless infinity were to be considered an infinite concept – infinity
accounting for a variety of infinities. It is not within the scope of this essay to discuss whether
infinity is truly an infinite concept; but if we were to assume it were not, we would need to
contemplate whether I am infinity should be refined to the statement I am a part of infinity, to allow
for differentiation among subjects answering the

Who Am I? Personality
Who am I Everyone in the world grows up asking the same question, who am I? Personality is what
defines this answer to this question. Fortunately, there are people like psychiatrist Carl Jung and
psychologist Howard Gardner who have given insights and the means of finding out how to answer
this age old question. Jung's theory of one's personality is based on four coupled traits that can vary
16 different ways. These 8 traits, extroversion vs. introversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs.
feeling, and judging vs. perceiving, make up the essence of who someone is supposed to be (Jung,
1971), unlike Gardner's' theory of 8 intelligences, language smart, math smart, visual smart, body
smart, music smart, people smart, self–smart and nature smart (Gardner, 2009), replacing one
singular intelligence. Gardner explains these smart components make up a personality. Because of
having these personality insights and building blocks, one can describe their own strengths of
traits, compare similarities or differences with others and explain why these similarities or
differences are important to understand. The first step is to identify my own personality and what
my strengths are. I took Jung's personality test and my results are that I am ISFJ, 47% introvert,
38% sensing, 9% feeling and 25% judging. I do agree with the introvert assessment as I tend to
want to do things on my own. I am the most creative during the middle of the night while I am alone
in my thoughts. I did

When I look in the mirror I know whom I am, but society makes it difficult to understand who I
am, because I was born to immigrants of Nigerian descent, and I am a first generation American,
that term is sometimes used so loosely. By looking at my name they assume that I am from some
island, but I am so quick to tell them that "I am Nigerian", there is another statement that normally
follows this. "You do not have an accent". I wonder if I had an accent would I be considered
Nigerian and not American; then I say that "My parents are Nigerian" and then that changes, so to
them I am just associated with the Nigerian culture it does not make me Nigerian, there has been

I currently enjoy shocking people with my heritage because there is still a stigma about what a
"Haitian" should look like, sound like, etc. I'd say that because I was such a scared little kid who
didn't talk much, my family could do little to support me because they didn't know I was having
issues (A. Benjamin, personal communication, Dec 1, 2009). This is saying that if you do not
walk, talk, or think like them; then you are not considered to be of that ethnicity. Everyday I am
on a constant race to discover who I am as an individual. I am fighting this battle whether I choose
to acknowledge it or not. Donald Hernandez has written in his book Children of Immigrants:
Health, Adjustment, and Public Assistance; he talks about major key points, but the most
important one state "Third, because life chances differ greatly according to race and ethnicity in
the United States, and because of the race and ethnic composition of immigrants to this country
has shifted markedly during recent decades," (3). That is true trying to be one thing is very hard
in USA society has an effect of how you may become as the individual. If I were in another
country they would just see as an American and nothing else, but the place that I was born and
raised they see me as what my parents are Nigerians. I am not American because my parents are
from Nigeria; this has been a very constant thing, because of several definitions of what it

Who I Am My Family? Essay
When I think about who I am in my family, I think about my experiences, good and bad, that has
made me who I To begin with, my parents divorced when I was just a toddler, so my consists of
the maternal side of the tree; they're too loud, too proud, and full of chaos, but I 'm sure that all
families have brown spots–don't they? When is a family considered dysfunctional? Is there some
secret sauce that makes up a functional family?
I have always been curious of how different my family and my life would've been if my parents
had a better marriage. I was only three when they divorced, so I missed the opportunity to know
my father or any of his family. From which side of my family did I inherit the most of my genes?
Most of my mom 's side is loud and hateful. I'm more alike my grandparents; I'm a calm individual
and don't enjoy being around draining negativity, but that's all my family consists of anymore.
My grandparents have four children: my two uncles, my aunt, and my mother. I remember a time
when my family would often get–together at my aunts house. They'd listen to music, play cards
(usually pinochle) and just have a good time enjoying each others company. My cousin Danielle
had an attic bedroom. She's seven years older than me, so we weren't close when I was an annoying
five–year old. As soon as my hand would touch her doorknob, she 'd yell "You're not coming in my
room Jessica!". It seemed like every time we visited, she 'd always have one of her friends with her

Who I Am Essay
Who I am right now is because of the many people, memories, moments, and emotions I have seen
and felt. Each of these things defining me and shaping me into the person I am today, and setting
me up for the person I will become tomorrow. It's been nothing short of a beautiful, but yet rocky
roller coaster ride. There have been times I have felt happiness and laughter, and times I have
endured hardship and sadness, but it has only allowed me to become the best possible version of
myself. This is who I am.
One of the most important people in my life, is my brother. He is the best brother you could ever
ask for, but yet he brings along great challenges, not just for himself or my family, but for me the
most. I fully understood when I was about 12 years old, that my brother had disabilities, meaning
he was different. He was going to face many challenges and not be able to do things that many
people get to do. Things like drive a car, or go to college. As his brother, I felt that he was my
responsibility the most, and the moment my mom told me about his condition, it changed my
life. Not for the worst, but for the better, because in that instant, I knew I was going to have to
work twice as hard in school and outside of school, so that I could become a successful person, and
be able to support him, when my parents could no longer. If I gave up in life, and lost hope, it
would not only affect me, but my brother, so he will always keep me going and keep me motivated.
Not only was I

Who I Am Today Essay
There's a lot we can learn from the stories of our past – if we tell them in such way that enables us to
hear what they really have to say. This holds true with me and my life. To put it simply, the life I've
lived up to this point has been nothing short of a beautiful (and bumpy) roller coaster ride! As I
have grown up there have been many factors that have influenced me to take on or do certain things.
These things, plus some of my individual choices, have contributed into what's made me who I am
today. And with that, I'm happy to say for this moment intime, I'm satisfied with the person I am
and the path I'm taking. Growing up as a little girl my life was ever changing. Although I don't have
many recollections of my childhood, I do...show more content...
This took her life. Even with that being said, before she passed, I made a promise to her that I was
going to grow up and be a nurse. This is something she would have wanted for me to do as she
knew how much nursing meant to me even at seventeen. And whenever I was happy, she was happy.
All of that, plus the everlasting support of my mother, has been extremely important in shaping me
(and my career interests) into what they are today. Currently, there are many types of goals I have
for myself that are important to my career. Of the first, I want to stay here at University of Saint
Francis and get my Bachelors in Science of Nursing. I've transferred to and from many colleges
since being out of high school and I think I've finally found my home at USF. This degree would
help me obtain a job that is something I enjoy doing rather than something I'm forced to do.
Secondly, I would love to be on the Dean's List every semester. I'm not quite sure how this fits in
with my career other than it would be something I can say I did while getting my degree. Lastly, I
plan on sticking with my job at the nursing home in hopes that someday I can use that as resume
builder and gain extra knowledge in things I wouldn't normally be able to access in a classroom.
Who knows, this might lead to further advancement and even promotion! The results from career
assessment fit well with my understanding on what I want to as a career. The assessment

Who Am I Am Essay
PASSport Essay #1 The question "who am I"? Can have a lot of individuals thinking about
themselves, including myself because one might not know where to start. It is a very broad
question, but having done the Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment, I realized more in depth what
kind of person I really am based on my top 5 strengths. Who I am as a learner, who I am in my
career and who I am as a person of faith lead me to answering the question above and understanding
more of myself within. First off, who I am as a learner has changed over the past years. At times
before, I wouldn't take certain classes or assignments seriously and have learned my lessons when I
failed. I believe having classmates at the time who weren't as focused as I wanted to be, played a
big role in my lack of understanding in classes. I understood later that if I felt learning was so
important to me, I need to realize that it is my future and I needed to focus on my own. Having
learner in my top 5 strengths defines me very well. Rath (2007) explains that, "The process, more
than the content or the result, is especially exciting for you" (p.133). I believe this defines me as a
learner because I enjoy having books in hand, opening up my notebook to write notes and
learning new ways to understand the class. Regardless if the content is something I have to get in
to or if I don't do well on tests, I enjoy the process of studying and learning more even when I know
I didn't do so well; that is what motivates me. I believe as long as I keep this mindset and
understand that this is my strength, I will continue to grow and further my education as much as
possible. Even though I have failed a few of my last classes, I never let that stop me from
continuing. Knowing that I have "failed" makes me realize I know I can do better and I try my
hardest not to let it get me down. I will not get further if I don't keep trying and as a learner I am a
motivator to myself in my studies. When it comes to who I am in my career, a few of my
strengths shine through more than others. For example, I put everything I have in to my work and
into my career, and looking back at how I've worked in the past compared to now, I see my
strengths restorative and developer.

Who am I? That is the question not even I know the answer to because only time can answer that.
Time changes everything that we've known or what we thought we knew. I too have changed
many times over because of the situation and setting. I'm from one of the smallest and poorest
nations in Asia where we live in different type of lives we have different culture, and few races
unlike America. America has a different environment in which it has many diverse people that are
from all around the world with different languages, races, and cultures. What always remained
with me were my values. I have many values that have made me who I am today, but the most
important are growth and persistence. They are both correlated to each other, but they hold
different and bigger meaning to me. To me growth means expanding your knowledge to do
something better. For others growth can be calculated in small amount or different physical
properties, but for me it is all about the mind (brain). Growing is very important not necessarily by
height, but with mind because it can expand beyond horizon and beyond others' ability to see. For
example, some of the greatest minds in history had amazing observations like Albert Einstein,
Nikola Tesla, Leonardo Da Vinci, Aristotle, and many more. With this principals I can make myself
more and make my future brighter by expanding my knowledge everyday. I strive growth, do with it
I work for excellence with vision. Another value that is important to me is

Over the course of my life I have had many life experiences which have made me who I am today.
When I was in my middle childhood, most of my life revolved around playing and having fun. I
did not have to put forth effort in hardly any area of my life or work hard in order to achieve
specific goals. As time went on however, my own life experiences began to have an effect on me,
and shape the person I am today. My life started to change the most during middle childhood when
I was around the age of seven years old. At this point in my life, I had to adjust to several big
changes. Our family was moving from our old house in the county into a new house in the city. We
had to do this, because my mom had just given birth to my younger...show more content...
As I went through elementary school I was not treated kindly by a large majority of my class. I
was often the one singled out by others and excluded from activities. I am sure this has had an
effect on my personality. Although I feel Erikson's psychosocial theory is correct, I believe it can be
changed over time. At a young age, life experiences can play a large role in the shaping of a person's
self–confidence and self–esteem. Even though an individual's past might not have been pleasant, as
they get older they are able to gain awareness of past events and decide which ones will continue
to have an effect on their lives (University of Illinois, 2013). The only year in elementary school I
enjoyed was fifth grade. This school year was full of encouragement and kindness from my
teachers. Their constant motivation and kind words gave me the confidence to improve my grades
in school and interact more with my classmates. After fifth grade, my entire class and I left our old
school, and relocated to the middle school. This change was not the easiest for me either. While
elementary school was a tame and controlled environment, middle school gave students more
freedom and was less strict on students. During middle school it was difficult for me to find a social
reference group to associate myself

Today as I look back at the first paper that I wrote for this class, I see that it is not the type of
paper that I usually write. It is not full of big, sophisticated words. Rather it is a paper that does
what it is supposed to, explain in simple english my thoughts on the subject. Those thoughts are that
today most college kids are whiners and students go to college because it is the norm. I also gave a
couple of abstracts to these. I never really took a stand as to which of those pertained to me. But I

Quite the contrary. It's just like style. At school my approach to work is very different than when
I am at my summer job. At school I can slack and still get away with it. But in the summer, if I

This worst thing is, I don't even know.
Who am I? What is the relationship between my self and the self that I portray, if there is a
difference? I am I, or am I? What follows is the first to verses of a Queensryche song entitled "I am

Beating with life you promised life, security, happiness. Unfortunate son cornered, cowering in the
pit of circling panes of glass that surround and reveals the ever present it.
"It" is my move, my every look, interpreting gestures, informing others what's undercover and
lurking beneath my mask of this year's featured model. I this to much? Close your eyes. Care to
look inside? I am I.
I just finished listening to this song and it gave me insight on my present dilemma. I think that
these verse say that on the outside, when he looks into the glass, he doesn't see what he wants to

who I really am. I think that this pertains to me. The me that writes is not the real me. For me
writing is a mask. When I write I hide my true self. But why? Because other people may not like

Who Am I Essays Examples

  • 1. Cultural Identity Who I Am I am born of cultural identity but only I am me. Cultural identity is a part of person's self–concept and self–perception. It is equivalent to nationality, religion, ethnicity, social class, and different generations. Cultural identity has to do with a person individually or socially. Everyone has a cultural identity. Knowing her you come from can give you a sense of belonging and a sense of self. My culture identity is composed of several factors. Cultural identity is a part of who I am. It has shaped aspects of my personality, my beliefs and values. It is a factor in how I dress, how I behave and my hopes and dreams for the future. My hijab and my personality shape my cultural identity; however, my cultural identity portrayed by the media does not influences me as person. There is saying, "Your veil is your mouth if your tongue is silent." For me that "veil" is my hijab and it is my "mouth". Ladies in Islamic culture dress modestly. A woman is required to start dressing modestly at a certain age, typically when she hits puberty. One thing a girl starts wearing, after the 1st grade, is the hijab. The hijab itself symbolizes modesty, privacy, and protection; however, others see it as an object that represents oppression and terrorism. It means so much more. The hijab, in my opinion, protects a woman from strangers, especially men. It shows that the woman is off–limits to all other men besides her husband. It also compels men to focus on the woman's personality and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Who I Am I? Essay Who am I? It is funny you should ask because I was just asking myself the same question. How would I define myself In a culture that seems to so easily attach a label to someone or quickly place people into a category? How would I be able to make you understand my place in the world, or my relationship to the world that surrounds me? If I want you to understand and see the "real me" and how I fit into the big picture, I would have to do an immense amount of soul searching. I would have to choose my ingredients very carefully. First and foremost, I need to gain some insight for myself into my true identity. Once that is completed, I can begin the dialog that would accurately describe who I am. Self–perception, that is the key! If a person wants to describe themselves to someone else, they need to understand who they are. Let me try to paint a picture of who I am in a way that will hopefully be an accurate picture of the "real me". The following article defines in certain terms what I believe makes us who we are, and tells a little of the story of who I have discovered myself to be as I travel along this journey that we call "life". The Ingredients When describing myself there is a great deal to consider. As a matter of fact, all the things that make up our identity are very complex and not easily catalogued. The first thing that comes to mind is that people are a product of their environments. Next, you might say that we are a combination of the various Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Who Am I? And. What It Is My Purpose? We are all people that were put on this earth for a reason. Rarely, do people actually discover what that reason is. Along the way, people become lost in the world of society and forget to find themselves and achieve what they were originally called to do. Society is directing people by telling them how they should live and what they should do with their life; when in reality, people should be making the their own ultimate decisions. Humans need to realize that they do have an individual identity and purpose apart from what society believes. In my opinion, to achieve sustainable wellness you should be able to unravel your identity by answering the unknowing questions of "who am I?" and "what is my purpose?" Though I am still searching for the answers to these questions myself, I am determined and willing to find my purpose aside from society 's views. The following twelve concepts will each evaluate the questions of "who am I?" and "what is my purpose?" in regards to the various sections of wellness. By examining each concept and analyzing myself, I hope to achieve a greater understanding of who I am and what I am called to accomplish. Mission and purpose are the first of the twelve concepts of wellness. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to grow up to become an elementary school teacher. Many of my peers had also been set on teaching elementary school, so I, too, considered that was my purpose. Each afternoon I would play pretend school by myself, being the student and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Who Are You As A Writer? Essay When presented with the question, "who are you as a writer?", I was speechless at first. But after thinking about it, I realized who I am as a writer has been influenced by so many different sponsors throughout my life and there was not a short, concrete answer. Brandt mentions that "literacy is sponsored by people, institutions, and circumstances that both make it possible for a person to become literate and shape the way the person actually acquires literacy." (Brandt 43) My attitude towards writing has been influenced by teachers, both negatively and positively, by my mother, and by academic assignments over the years. My answer to the question can only be answered by a narrative of my writing life. I have convinced myself that I am a terrible writer, and when presented with a writing assignment, I get anxious instantly. I see writing as a burden and a huge obstacle that gets placed in my life. Academic writing is not fun, but something I value due to the fact that we are a grade driven society. When writing, I write to the guidelines in order to receive points for the requested criteria. The reason being, I gave up on expressing my own ideas because I had been shut down by so many teachers throughout my education. I tried to write down what came to my mind and put my own twist on things, but that was not the "right" way to write papers. In order to make both my teachers and my grades happy, I wrote what they wanted to hear, and even then I was not to the level they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Personal Identity Essay A person's identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests and surrounding environments are all factors that tend to help shape a person's identity. Some factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a person grows up in a family, they are influenced by many aspects of their life. Family and culture may influence a person's sense of responsibilities, ethics and morals, tastes in music, humor and sports, and many other aspects of life. Friends and surrounding environments may influence a person's taste in clothing, music, speech, and social activities. Personal interests are what truly set individuals apart. An individual is not a puppet...show more content... Society has had a limited impact on my lifestyle, mostly because I despise trends. The largest trends I despise are rap and hip–hop and the clothing, attitudes, and type of speech that that type of 'music' is breeding. I chose to steer away from that crowd, but it may also be because I live my life off of adrenaline. My high on life is the energy I have when I get my blood pumping, my heart pounding, and my adrenaline raging. Most aspects of my individuality reflect that very well. I love hard, aggressive music, and also guns, but my passion in life is extreme sports, whether it be on a dirt bike, a bmx bike, a snowmobile, or a snowboard. I have a strong set of morals and ethics that I have partly adopted from my parents, but some are also partly my own. My morals mostly consist of karma (being kind, caring, helpful, truthful, and considerate to others), not littering (especially in nature), respecting nature, keeping a clean and welcoming home, success that is measured with happiness and not possessions, and having strong family ties. I feel that I am very strongly rounded individual who is going to go far in life. Many people would agree with that, although some people just think that I am an absolutely crazy person who has a death wish and will not go anywhere but to the hospital or the morgue. Educational experiences also tend to influence a person's identity. I have not had too many educational Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Reflection Paper On Who I Am Reflective essay The reason I am who I am is obviously from my origin. My tribe is one of the strongest ethnic groups in the Arab world. However, I choose to believe the reason I am who I am comes from nurture. I was always raised and treated in good Muslim household when I was a child, my parents always insured a healthy and stable life and education that I can have. I studied five years in China, in an international school in the Fijian province. Those five years had the largest impact on my life so far. I was living a completely different life, and getting use to a completely different culture. It's true they're both in the same continent, however they have different lifestyles. When I was in Saudi Arabia from the period I was born till 10 years old, I was a different person completely. I was terrible in school work and I was a bully. It was one of the worst experience in my life, because being a bully is just cruel. When I first moved to china,...show more content... The reason I tried that, was because 9th grade was my last year in China, so I wanted to live up to the most. I even broke a record in a stamina test in physical education, the test was called "pacer test". which ultimately bases on stamina and the way it measures your ability in stamina was to make you run 50 feet and back in a certain time. And every time you ran 50 feet it would count one, however the tricky part was that it would shorten the time length for each 50 feet you ran, and those were called levels. The first time I tried the pacer test I had a score of 19 in 6th grade, but the last time I had the pacer test in 9th grade I had a score of 100. no one believed my score including myself. I was also a chairman in the model united nations in my school's conference which was one of the happiest moments of my life. • 7. A Poem Essay: Who Am I? Who am I? I am a tall girl with chestnut hair, forest green eyes and sun–tanned skin. My physique sets me apart from the 7.4 billion other people on our planet. If, however, I were an identical twin, physical characteristics alone would not suffice to distinguish between my sister and me. Even though we would look the same, we would clearly be two different people. Therefore, we can conclude that a mere description of our physique cannot be considered a universal and comprehensive response to the question at hand, as it neglects other aspects of our identity. Our identity – encompassing numerous elements of being, among which: family, profession, culture, religion, sexuality, personality and emotions – is of unimaginable complexity, such that in a metaphorical sense it may be portrayed as infinite....show more content... may be answered by the following statement: I am infinity. This holds true from a bio–mathematical approach and a socio–cultural perspective, as well as in a metaphorical sense and in relationship to time. However, an element of concern with this definition is, that as a model answer to all, it would defeat a sense of uniqueness sought by individuals who try to distinguish themselves from their surroundings using the aforementioned question. Specifically, if I am infinity, and You are infinity (in the instance when you define yourself as I am infinity), then language alone cannot highlight the differences between you and me. Thus, the sheer word infinity would be deemed an insufficient response to the essay question; unless infinity were to be considered an infinite concept – infinity accounting for a variety of infinities. It is not within the scope of this essay to discuss whether infinity is truly an infinite concept; but if we were to assume it were not, we would need to contemplate whether I am infinity should be refined to the statement I am a part of infinity, to allow for differentiation among subjects answering the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Who Am I? Personality Who am I Everyone in the world grows up asking the same question, who am I? Personality is what defines this answer to this question. Fortunately, there are people like psychiatrist Carl Jung and psychologist Howard Gardner who have given insights and the means of finding out how to answer this age old question. Jung's theory of one's personality is based on four coupled traits that can vary 16 different ways. These 8 traits, extroversion vs. introversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs. feeling, and judging vs. perceiving, make up the essence of who someone is supposed to be (Jung, 1971), unlike Gardner's' theory of 8 intelligences, language smart, math smart, visual smart, body smart, music smart, people smart, self–smart and nature smart (Gardner, 2009), replacing one singular intelligence. Gardner explains these smart components make up a personality. Because of having these personality insights and building blocks, one can describe their own strengths of traits, compare similarities or differences with others and explain why these similarities or differences are important to understand. The first step is to identify my own personality and what my strengths are. I took Jung's personality test and my results are that I am ISFJ, 47% introvert, 38% sensing, 9% feeling and 25% judging. I do agree with the introvert assessment as I tend to want to do things on my own. I am the most creative during the middle of the night while I am alone in my thoughts. Who I Am Essay When I look in the mirror I know whom I am, but society makes it difficult to understand who I am, because I was born to immigrants of Nigerian descent, and I am a first generation American, that term is sometimes used so loosely. By looking at my name they assume that I am from some island, but I am so quick to tell them that "I am Nigerian", there is another statement that normally follows this. "You do not have an accent". I wonder if I had an accent would I be considered Nigerian and not American; then I say that "My parents are Nigerian" and then that changes, so to them I am just associated with the Nigerian culture it does not make me Nigerian, there has been many discussion between my friends who are the same like me confused to...show more content... I currently enjoy shocking people with my heritage because there is still a stigma about what a "Haitian" should look like, sound like, etc. I'd say that because I was such a scared little kid who didn't talk much, my family could do little to support me because they didn't know I was having issues (A. Benjamin, personal communication, Dec 1, 2009). This is saying that if you do not walk, talk, or think like them; then you are not considered to be of that ethnicity. Everyday I am on a constant race to discover who I am as an individual. I am fighting this battle whether I choose to acknowledge it or not. Donald Hernandez has written in his book Children of Immigrants: Health, Adjustment, and Public Assistance; he talks about major key points, but the most important one state "Third, because life chances differ greatly according to race and ethnicity in the United States, and because of the race and ethnic composition of immigrants to this country has shifted markedly during recent decades," (3). • 10. Who I Am My Family? Essay When I think about who I am in my family, I think about my experiences, good and bad, that has made me who I To begin with, my parents divorced when I was just a toddler, so my consists of the maternal side of the tree; they're too loud, too proud, and full of chaos, but I 'm sure that all families have brown spots–don't they? When is a family considered dysfunctional? Is there some secret sauce that makes up a functional family? I have always been curious of how different my family and my life would've been if my parents had a better marriage. I was only three when they divorced, so I missed the opportunity to know my father or any of his family. From which side of my family did I inherit the most of my genes? Most of my mom 's side is loud and hateful. I'm more alike my grandparents; I'm a calm individual and don't enjoy being around draining negativity, but that's all my family consists of anymore. My grandparents have four children: my two uncles, my aunt, and my mother. I remember a time when my family would often get–together at my aunts house. They'd listen to music, play cards (usually pinochle) and just have a good time enjoying each others company. My cousin Danielle had an attic bedroom. She's seven years older than me, so we weren't close when I was an annoying five–year old. As soon as my hand would touch her doorknob, she 'd yell "You're not coming in my room Jessica!". • 11. Who I Am Essay Who I am right now is because of the many people, memories, moments, and emotions I have seen and felt. Each of these things defining me and shaping me into the person I am today, and setting me up for the person I will become tomorrow. It's been nothing short of a beautiful, but yet rocky roller coaster ride. There have been times I have felt happiness and laughter, and times I have endured hardship and sadness, but it has only allowed me to become the best possible version of myself. This is who I am. One of the most important people in my life, is my brother. He is the best brother you could ever ask for, but yet he brings along great challenges, not just for himself or my family, but for me the most. I fully understood when I was about 12 years old, that my brother had disabilities, meaning he was different. He was going to face many challenges and not be able to do things that many people get to do. Things like drive a car, or go to college. As his brother, I felt that he was my responsibility the most, and the moment my mom told me about his condition, it changed my life. Not for the worst, but for the better, because in that instant, I knew I was going to have to work twice as hard in school and outside of school, so that I could become a successful person, and be able to support him, when my parents could no longer. If I gave up in life, and lost hope, it would not only affect me, but my brother, so he will always keep me going and keep me motivated. Not only was I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Who I Am Today Essay There's a lot we can learn from the stories of our past – if we tell them in such way that enables us to hear what they really have to say. This holds true with me and my life. To put it simply, the life I've lived up to this point has been nothing short of a beautiful (and bumpy) roller coaster ride! As I have grown up there have been many factors that have influenced me to take on or do certain things. These things, plus some of my individual choices, have contributed into what's made me who I am today. And with that, I'm happy to say for this moment intime, I'm satisfied with the person I am and the path I'm taking. Growing up as a little girl my life was ever changing. Even with that being said, before she passed, I made a promise to her that I was going to grow up and be a nurse. This is something she would have wanted for me to do as she knew how much nursing meant to me even at seventeen. And whenever I was happy, she was happy. All of that, plus the everlasting support of my mother, has been extremely important in shaping me (and my career interests) into what they are today. Currently, there are many types of goals I have for myself that are important to my career. Of the first, I want to stay here at University of Saint Francis and get my Bachelors in Science of Nursing. I've transferred to and from many colleges since being out of high school and I think I've finally found my home at USF. This degree would help me obtain a job that is something I enjoy doing rather than something I'm forced to do. Secondly, I would love to be on the Dean's List every semester. I'm not quite sure how this fits in with my career other than it would be something I can say I did while getting my degree. Lastly, I plan on sticking with my job at the nursing home in hopes that someday I can use that as resume builder and gain extra knowledge in things I wouldn't normally be able to access in a classroom. Who knows, this might lead to further advancement and even promotion! The results from career assessment fit well with my understanding on what I want to as a career. • 13. Who Am I Am Essay PASSport Essay #1 The question "who am I"? Can have a lot of individuals thinking about themselves, including myself because one might not know where to start. It is a very broad question, but having done the Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment, I realized more in depth what kind of person I really am based on my top 5 strengths. Who I am as a learner, who I am in my career and who I am as a person of faith lead me to answering the question above and understanding more of myself within. First off, who I am as a learner has changed over the past years. At times before, I wouldn't take certain classes or assignments seriously and have learned my lessons when I failed. I believe having classmates at the time who weren't as focused as I wanted to be, played a big role in my lack of understanding in classes. I understood later that if I felt learning was so important to me, I need to realize that it is my future and I needed to focus on my own. Having learner in my top 5 strengths defines me very well. Rath (2007) explains that, "The process, more than the content or the result, is especially exciting for you" (p.133). I believe this defines me as a learner because I enjoy having books in hand, opening up my notebook to write notes and learning new ways to understand the class. Regardless if the content is something I have to get in to or if I don't do well on tests, I enjoy the process of studying and learning more even when I know I didn't do so well; that is what motivates me. I believe as long as I keep this mindset and understand that this is my strength, I will continue to grow and further my education as much as possible. Even though I have failed a few of my last classes, I never let that stop me from continuing. Knowing that I have "failed" makes me realize I know I can do better and I try my hardest not to let it get me down. I will not get further if I don't keep trying and as a learner I am a motivator to myself in my studies. When it comes to who I am in my career, a few of my strengths shine through more than others. For example, I put everything I have in to my work and into my career, and looking back at how I've worked in the past compared to now, I see my strengths restorative and developer. • 14. Who I Am Essay Who am I? That is the question not even I know the answer to because only time can answer that. Time changes everything that we've known or what we thought we knew. I too have changed many times over because of the situation and setting. I'm from one of the smallest and poorest nations in Asia where we live in different type of lives we have different culture, and few races unlike America. America has a different environment in which it has many diverse people that are from all around the world with different languages, races, and cultures. What always remained with me were my values. I have many values that have made me who I am today, but the most important are growth and persistence. They are both correlated to each other, but they hold different and bigger meaning to me. To me growth means expanding your knowledge to do something better. For others growth can be calculated in small amount or different physical properties, but for me it is all about the mind (brain). Growing is very important not necessarily by height, but with mind because it can expand beyond horizon and beyond others' ability to see. For example, some of the greatest minds in history had amazing observations like Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Leonardo Da Vinci, Aristotle, and many more. With this principals I can make myself more and make my future brighter by expanding my knowledge everyday. I strive growth, do with it I work for excellence with vision. • 15. My Identity Essays Over the course of my life I have had many life experiences which have made me who I am today. When I was in my middle childhood, most of my life revolved around playing and having fun. I did not have to put forth effort in hardly any area of my life or work hard in order to achieve specific goals. As time went on however, my own life experiences began to have an effect on me, and shape the person I am today. My life started to change the most during middle childhood when I was around the age of seven years old. At this point in my life, I had to adjust to several big changes. Our family was moving from our old house in the county into a new house in the city. We had to do this, because my mom had just given birth to my younger...show more content... As I went through elementary school I was not treated kindly by a large majority of my class. I was often the one singled out by others and excluded from activities. I am sure this has had an effect on my personality. Although I feel Erikson's psychosocial theory is correct, I believe it can be changed over time. At a young age, life experiences can play a large role in the shaping of a person's self–confidence and self–esteem. Even though an individual's past might not have been pleasant, as they get older they are able to gain awareness of past events and decide which ones will continue to have an effect on their lives (University of Illinois, 2013). The only year in elementary school I enjoyed was fifth grade. This school year was full of encouragement and kindness from my teachers. Their constant motivation and kind words gave me the confidence to improve my grades in school and interact more with my classmates. "It" is my move, my every look, interpreting gestures, informing others what's undercover and lurking beneath my mask of this year's featured model. I this to much? Close your eyes. Care to look inside? I am I. I just finished listening to this song and it gave me insight on my present dilemma. I think that these verse say that on the outside, when he looks into the glass, he doesn't see what he wants to see. So he lifted the mask. When I write I hide my true self. But why? Because other people may not like who I really Get more content on HelpWriting.net
