United States' national holiday in November – Thanksgiving – reflects the country's culture of
consumerism. The first documented Thanksgiving meal in America was between the Spanish

Thanksgiving is a time for many things: food, family, and, with Black Friday sales starting earlier
each year, shopping. It's also a time for giving thanks, something most people forget about despite

Claus on the television parade. She begins cooking all the dishes at six o'clock that morning, but
stuffing preparations begin the day before. On the evening before the family's gathering, my
grandma simmers a sausage, onion, and celery mixture and tears the dry bread that will soak in all
the flavor of the sausage the next day. On Thanksgiving morning, she pours the sausage mixture over
the bread in a casserole pan before baking it in the oven for one hour. The stuffing on the edges
becomes crunchy while the inside remains soft, and the poultry seasonings infuse the dish with even

This year Thanksgiving is on November 23,2017. Every year my family Thanksgiving is the best, to

It was November of 2014 when my family and I were traveling to Payson, Arizona to visit my
grandparents and celebrate Thanksgiving. My family is fairly small so it wasn't complicated to

As a kid I loved cooking and baking with my mom, but using the oven was my least favorite part.

went off and I was home alone. I was in my room when the timer went off, I walked out of my

Everyone has different plans on Thanksgiving, some families travel, others relax. It's always nice
to know how other people celebrate the holiday. Asking about 10 other students what they did on
Thanksgiving and traditions, this is what was collected. I found out that not all families have the
same kind of Thanksgiving, separating from culture to activities. Different families don't always
hold their Thanksgiving at their own home. In fact, a lot of people actually do travel to see close or

Pumpkin pie, chocolate cream, whipped cream, and strawberry lemon pie are normally the pies
that we enjoy after our Thanksgiving meal. I enjoy a piece of each pie, and so do my cousins, but

from these American holidays for the fact that it is centered around the virtue of gratitude.

In September of 1620, Separatists arrived to the New World after sixty–six days across the Atlantic
Ocean, and after a month's travel from the tip of Cape Cod and across Cape Cod's Bay, these
colonists finally arrived and established the Plymouth Colony. With 102 passengers at the start of
the journey, only about a half of the Pilgrims survived the first winter. They were naive to the
environment of the North America and struggled to find reliable and safe food sources. These
struggling colonists found help when they encountered an Abenaki Indian who spoke English, and
later this Native American introduced the colonists to Squanto, a Patuxet. Squanto showed the
Pilgrims how to catch fish in the rivers and then showed them how to use to fish to fertilize the soil.
This way the colonists could grow a successful harvest of corn. That November in 1621, Plymouth's
