Last August, I took a trip with the youth group from my church to Washington, D.C. to visit the
church there in our congregation. While I was there for seven days, I found many things there that
were much better in the large city, and other things very odd. Going out in the city and finding out
these things were very interesting to me since I live in a small town Kalona, Iowa, with a population
around three–thousand people. After experiencing both, I can definitely say that both have their
benefits and disadvantages. Personally, I still feel that living in a small town is better than living in
a big city. In the big city, there are many things that are different, but the most obvious one is the
sights. There is lots of tall buildings and streets connecting everywhere. Millions of people walking
in every which way to do their own agendas. One thing that is evident while sight seeing is the
amount of pollution. Trash and litter surrounded you almost everywhere you went, including the
streets, curbs, water, grass, sidewalks, and even some buildings. As we walked around the
monuments, one could see trash and pollution in the ponds surrounding our nation 's famous
monuments. It was surprising to me more people didn't want to keep them looking nice. Similarly,
the small town of Kalona does have litter, but not nearly as much as the city. However, the city has
much more people than a small town, so this is logical of the amount of pollution.

I have had the opportunity to live in both, as a child I was raised in Claude Texas. Very small, but
not as small as Groom. When I was seven my step dad got a job offer, so we moved to Chicago
Illinois. It was the worst thing I have ever had to do, it was awful, and loud, and scary, and busy,
and I hated it. With a passion.
After living there about a month, we had enough of it. We moved back to Claude, and I was so

preferences. Every person is different and has their own opinion and preferences. Although I do live
in a small town I would prefer to live in the city. Cities are exceedingly superior due to goods
nearby, simpler transportation, a wide variety of activities, and many more. However, I am not
against living in small towns. By living in a city people are closer to sources of food. There is no
driving for twenty minutes for an individual if they must go to get groceries. They are much closer
and cuts down valuable time out of people's busy schedules. The amount of time for driving to the
nearest supermarket is much quicker when living in the city than a small town that does not have a
store to go to for purchasing food. The time factor is very important because of many different

One of the vast number of trends includes clothing. Clothing is a way for people to be able to
show and express who they are. Being in the city you are closest to malls and other shopping
centers. This allows people to be able to have quick access to clothing and much more. Malls are
also a place for social gatherings. Being close to a mall allows you not only to go shopping but to
also go and hangout with friends while doing so. It opens up many more opportunities for people to

Under the trend of globalization Chinese architects are always struggling in how to engage in the
trend of globalization and keep its unique culture and tradition. There are a large of numbers of
cities in China undergoing a delirious wave of development. Traditional dwellings are demolished
everyday replaced by high–rise commercial high–rise buildings which has no characteristic. The
image of cities became similar and lost their identity. There are normally two ways to deal with this
identity crisis. One way is to build landmark to display it character which always ignore the
tradition of the city. An example is the Galaxy Soho designed Zaha Hadid, which as a giant
out–space invader intrude in a historical area of Beijing Hutong area without any considering the
surrounding texture and culture. The other way is considering the tradition but in fact it just
superficially make a direct reference to tradition forms. For example, on the street of Xi'an the first
capital city in China, there are a lots of buildings topped with a pitched roof on high–rise to structure
or Shanghai Museum which directly mimic a form of traditional cooking vessel. Those buildings
always as kitsch for their superficial mimic.
