Chinese farmers discovered an ancient army of Terra Cotta soldiers and weapons near Xi'an City in 1974. The soldiers were crafted to be buried with Qin Shi Haung Di after his death to protect him in the afterlife. There are over 8,000 life-sized Terra Cotta soldiers and horses that were buried with the emperor over 2,000 years ago. The massive tomb project took 39 years to complete and employed thousands of workers.
