• Started in Houston, Texas in 1967
• YMCA of Central Kentucky has had the program since 1985, the program
mentored 8500 youth and awarded over 1,000 graduating seniors with
scholarships totaling more than 11 Million
• The success is due to commitment of community sponsors who help
support professional and personal development of youth

4. Mission Statement
• “Black Achievers is the catalyst that provides exposure to present and future
educational/career opportunities, instills positive social values, ignites
students' thirst for knowledge, enables students to reach their full potential
by creating opportunities for adults and the community to participate in their
lives, and empowers families to assist students in reaching higher goals.”
5. • Offers young people in grades 7-12 a range of training, networking, and
service opportunities to explore career options, and prepare for college.
• Program helps youth of all academic abilities and backgrounds to develop
leadership skills, planning and decision making experience, and high
expectations.

• Lack of interactivity for user

• The program has slowly been losing membership since the 1990s
• Sharonda has been brought on to revitalize the program, with her experience
as director of the Upward Bound Program

• Met with Sharonda Steele how to start successful social media campaigns
• Help develop ways to start social media campaign
