1. Stanley Kubrick
For this essay on auteur theory I have selected Stanley Kubrick as the
subject and I shall be comparingthe followingof his films: The
Shining, Full Metal Jacket and A Clockwork Orange and will be
arguinghis status as an auteur.
I have selected Kubrick, as I believe he has an incredibly distinct style
in terms of visualsand concept, I have also selected these three films
as they are arguably the most wellknown of his work and weremade
between the yearsof 1971 – 1987meaningthat I will be able to
observe how his techniques were easily recognisable over these 17
years thus makinghim an auteur.
For my look at the visualelements of Kubrick’swork I will observe
his distinct useof composition, cameras and mise en scene, which are
notable throughout all his work, particularly the useof leadinglines
in shots and the impressiveuse of mise en scene which are presentin
all three of these films.
In termsof concept I will be mainly focusingon the fact Kubrick’s
most popular worksare adaptations of novelsspecifically those that
follow rather dark and gritty themes and concepts
