GOAL - It would be great if every chapter used every form of
social media but this may be a bit of a lofty goal - at least for now.
Instead, let’s have another goal. Let’s make a goal of having a
website and a Facebook page for every chapter in the state.

3. Twitter
Some say it is a fad. Some say “I don’t get it” while others say that it is an integral
part of their social strategy. What is the deal with Twitter?
History
Twitter is an online social networking service that enables its users to send
and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets".
It was created in 2006. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with
over 500 million active users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets
daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. Since its launch,
the Twitter website has become one of the top 10 most visited on the
Internet, and has been described as "the SMS of the Internet." Unregistered
users can read tweets, while registered users can post tweets through the
website interface, SMS, or a range of apps for mobile devices.
Uses for HR
Why use Twitter?
Yes, Twitter can be used for sending
out random thoughts. Yes, Twitter
can be used for sharing pictures.
Yes, Twitter has spam. Yes, Twitter
is used by teenagers.
What about connecting with other
HR professionals? Can Twitter do
that? YES! You can connect with
anyone worldwide who has a Twitter
account.
What if you could have a chat - or virtual meeting - with HR professionals from across the country?
Can Twitter do that? YES! Using the website - for easiest access and reading - tweetchat.com you
can choose the topic of your choice and chat about it. For example, #SHRMCHAT is one that I
participate in that has provided both valuable information but also great HR contacts.
More information about Twitter coming soon to the MSSHRM Blog.
