3. From Tunica to Taylorsville...Greenwood to Gulfport...Collins to Corinth....Hot Coffee to
Hernando....when local Mississippi SHRM chapters need help...who do they call? No, not
Ghostbusters.....they call the Dynamic Duo of District Directors, Amanda Ford and Janna
Rogers!
District Director: Secret Origins
Almost every hero has a secret origin and a District Director is no
different. But, today...on a day unlike any other...we uncover that
secret. So, gather around.....listen closely. It all began when SHRM
setup their structure on how to categorize the chain of information from
the chapter to the state to the regional to the national level. (You get
the idea.) Every State Council has a Director but almost all Director
has a District Director who assists the chapters in more one-on-one
tasks. (Yes, this is simplified but...again...you get the idea.)
In Mississippi, there are two. The Northern District Director patrols the
streets and rescues chapters such as the Delta Area HRA,
NorthCentral MS HRA, NE and NW Mississippi HRA and Golden
Triangle HRA. On the other hand, the Southern District Director
patrols the streets and rescues chapters such as the Capital Area
HRA, South MS SHRM, Gulf Coast HRA and East Central MS HRA.

4. The District Director for the North
Mississippi is Janna Rogers. She is a dual
member of both the NW Mississippi HRA
and the Memphis SHRM chapters. The
Desoto County Board of Supervisors
has carried the privilege of having her as
their HR Director since 2oo8. In addition,
Janna is also an Adjunct Instructor with
Union University. She has a Bachelors,
Professional Studies in Healthcare
Administration and a Masters in Business
Administration.
I've personally had the pleasure of working
with Janna on the State Council and know
first-hand that she has the spirit of a hero!
Discovering that she has a background in
healthcare only serves as a testament to her
caring personality. The chapters in North
Mississippi have a caped crusader ready to
lend a helping and a heartfelt word of
encouragement.

5. Janna doesn't do it alone. She has a counterpart in
the Southern District ready to hold back the tides of
inexperienced applicants and promote the HR
profession. That person is Amanda Ford.
Amanda is the manager of the Gulf Coast office of
Elwood Staffing and has served on the Mississippi
State Council of SHRM in various capacities over the
years. Most recently, before taking the Southern
District role, Amanda was the Chapter President of
the Gulf Coast HRA (then known as Harrison
Hancock HRA).
She is a graduate of the University of Southern
Mississippi and specializes in staffing and
recruitment.
I met Amanda in 2008 on a trip to Washington, DC
for the 2008 Society for Human Resource
Management (SHRM)'s Leadership Conference. It
has been my pleasure to work with Amanda since
then as part of the State Council. She is a dedicated
member and a team player.
