Alexandre F. Godefoy invented the hair dryer in 1890 in his salon in France by adapting parts from vacuum cleaners to quickly dry hair. He created the hair dryer to make it easier for people to dry their hair rather than waiting for it to air dry. While early hair dryers were heavy, the invention impacted society by allowing people to easily dry their hair using a plug-in device instead of relying on air drying.
