LAYING
Room: Not suitable for damp rooms. Ideal room temperature is 20°C and 50 to 60% humidity.
Avoid extreme variations in temperature.
Floor heating: Compatible with hydronic systems only. Floor surface temperature must not
exceed 27°C. Turn off system 48 hours prior to installation. Thermostat required. Not compatible
with reversible systems.
Before installation: Remove existing flooring. Clean surface and make sure subfloor is level:
height difference should not be greater than 2 mm per metre. Flooring can be installed on any
surface, except carpeting. Test for moisture: maximum reading for concrete subfloors is 1.8% and
0.3% for anhydrite subfloor.
Underlayment: Lay a moisture resistant vapour barrier such as polyethylene film (0.2 mm thick,
1.2 mm if not using cellulose foam). Overlap seams by at least 20 cm and run up at least 2 cm
against walls. If necessary, use additional sound insulation; sub-layer must not be more than 3
mm .
Installation: Do not use a hammer or mallet. Inspect each plank before installation; do not
use defective, damaged or broken planks. An 8 mm expansion space must be provided between
planks, around the perimeter of the room and around any fixed objects such as pipes and doors.
Increase space to 15 mm if surface is greater than 11x5 and between rooms. To remove flooring,
remove one full row at a time and slide the planks; do not separate by lifting.
CLEANING CARE
Topsilence laminate flooring is already protected. Do not use chemical products. Do not use large
amounts of water and avoid leaving puddles when cleaning. Remove damp items such as bottles
and flower pots. Place protectors (not rubber) under furniture and rolling chairs.
Warranty: For warranty conditions, visit www.gerflor.com

LAYING ADVICE
1.1 STORAGE:
• before laying, store the rolls (unrolled) for 24 hours
in the room where they are to be fitted.
• ambient temperature: minimum 15°C.
1.2 TOOLS:
• have the following suitable tools to hand:
pencil, cutter + hooked blade, tape measure,
ruler and araseur trimmer.
1.3 SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
• wet areas: edges and penetrations must be caulked using
a polyurethane sealant.
• doorway: install a threshold bar or glue down
fully over 5cm.
1.4 PROTECTION:
• use a load distribution device under all legs and castors
of heavy, moveable or vibrating furniture.
• avoid using rubber feet on your furniture.
1. PREPARATION
2. SUBSTRATE
All substrates must be:
Dry
Moisture content:
• on tiling 4.5% (75% RH)
• on upper floors a tolerance is allowed
up to 7% (80% RH).
Clean: swept
Flat: 7mm under the 2m rule
2.1 WOOD SUBSTRATE - NEW OR REFURBISHED
Surface preparation
• sand if there are uneven areas 1mm.
• treat joints with a suitable grouting compound
if their opening is 3mm.
• retain the vents in the case of wood-based panels
or flooring.
2.2 TILES
Surface preparation
• apply a levelling compound in the case of joints
5mm and/or surface unevenness 1mm.
2.3 FLEXIBLE COVERINGS
Surface preparation
• if more than 10% of the surface to be covered is missing:
remove all of the floor.
• if less than 10% of the surface to be covered is missing:
fix the loose tiles back down and fill the gaps
with a levelling compound.
Types of floor covering
Can be laid without preparation
• linoleum
• rubber
• compact vinyls (homogeneous or heterogeneous)
• tiles and adhesive planks
• needled and short-pile carpet
Cannot be laid without preparation
Indentations may appear:
• foam-backed vinyl
• textile-backed vinyl
• foam-backed lino
• foam-backed rubber.
2.4 CONCRETE
Surface preparation
• remove adhesive residue.
• if patching compound is removed from isolated areas: co-
ver these areas again with a levelling compound.
• if patching compound is removed from most of the area:
remove the remaining patching compound.
3. LAYING METHODS
Recommended laying methods:
• loose-lay, without adhesive: up to 35m2
• laying without adhesive, with double-sided adhesive
or hook-and-loop tape along the edge of the room:
above 35m2
.
For glue-down: use an acrylic emulsion adhesive
applied to only one surface, with a coverage of about
250g/m2
. Use a finely serrated spatula.
For semi-loose laying: fix the floor covering using
double-sided adhesive along the edge of the room
and at the exact location of the joint.

4. JOINT
4.1 TYPE OF JOINT
• HQR joints will be cold-treated or hot-welded if done
by a professional.
• the product for cold treating Connect joints is colourless
and can be used regardless of the material’s colour.
4.2 GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
• as far as possible, joints between rolls must be positioned
away from areas of heavy traffic.
• in rooms, rolls should be arranged preferably towards
the wall of the main window.
• in corridors, rolls will be laid in the direction of the main
traffic unless specified otherwise.
• if you have to make a joint and loose-lay is not feasible,
use the edging, fixed or glue-down laying method.
Draw a line on the floor where the joint of the floor covering
will be positioned.
For wood-based panels, ensure that the joint of the floor
covering does not lie directly above a joint in the substrate.
We recommend allowing an offset of at least 15cm between
the joints in the floor covering and the joints in the wood-based
panels.
Cutting seamless design: make a cut overlapping the selvedges.
Ensure that the edges overlap by several centimetres. Using a 2m
metal rule, cut the two thicknesses of floor covering in one go to
ensure a perfect joint of the rolls.
Cutting imitation design (wood, tiles): when laying the rolls, use a
2m metal rule to cut the flooring while following the design to en-
sure a perfect joint.
Apply masking tape along the joint.
Split the masking tape at the joint with a hooked blade.
Insert the end of the nozzle in the joint and work backwards,
slowly injecting the fluid until it overflows at the surface on the
paper adhesive tape.
Leave the welding fluid to act for more than 1 minute.
Remove the masking tape and clean off any remaining
traces of welding fluid using white spirit.
Avoid walking on the joint for 24 hours.

LAYING
The subfloor must be smooth, clean, dry, undamaged and flat.
Recommendations: unroll the floorcovering 24 hours before laying.
Floor covering should not be laid in rooms at a temperature is
below 15°C.
Can be installed on underfloor heating (up to 28°C).
Weld the joints (cold-treatment product) to ensure good water-
tightness.
Recommended laying methods:
l Loose laying without glue: up to 25 sq. m
l Laying without glue, with double-sided tape or hook loop strips
around the edges of the room: over 25 sq. m
If permanent laying with glue: use a single stick acrylic glue
(approximately 250g/sq. m).
Use a finely-notched trowel.
CLEANING CARE
Regular cleaning with a vacuum cleaner, dust mop or a wet cloth.
Cleaning: with water and a neutral detergent; rinse with clean water.
Stain removal: White Spirit removes almost all stains.
Do not use solvents.
Precautions: do not use floor wax.
Avoid rubber leg caps and casters. Replace with plastic caps and polyamide
casters. Protect the bases and legs of your waxed furniture with a felt disc.

LAYING
Laying recommendation: Gerflor floor coverings are high quality products developed to last.
No warranty can be claimed unless the product has been laid according to the following
specifications:
The subfloor must be smooth, hard, dry and clean.
Unroll the floor covering 24 hours before it is due to be installed.
The floor covering should not be laid in rooms where the temperature is below 15°C.
Although Home Comfort is resistant to subfloor moisture we recommend that the floor
construction should contain a Damp Proof Membrane.
Can be installed on underfloor heating (up to 28°C).
Cold-weld the joints for perfect water-tightness.
Permanent laying: Use a single stick acrylic glue (approximately 250g/sqm) and a finely notched
trowel and cold weld the joints.
Loose laying: Use double sided tape or hook loop strips around the edges and along the joints
for a perfect and invisible fit.
RENOVATION: Thanks to its special patented composition, Home Comfort can be laid directly on
most existing subfloors using loose laying.
On wooden floorboards and on ceramic tiles: Home Comfort can be laid directly without any
subfloor preparation. No levelling compound (finishing) needs to be applied even if there are open
joints:
- up to 5 mm wide and a maximum depth of 1 mm in existing tiling
- up to 3 mm wide in wood flooring.
On textile carpeting (felt or needle punch): Home Comfort can be installed directly over the
existing carpeting as it has excellent resistance to indentation.
On concrete: Home Comfort can be installed loose-laid or semi-permanently without any special
surface preparation. Use double-sided tape along the edges of the room.
A rough concrete surface should be treated with a smoothing compound beforehand.

CLEANING CARE
Initial cleaning: Before commencing a regular maintenance programme, initial cleaning of
the floor will be necessary to remove dirt accumulated during laying and other building works.
Remove debris, sweep floor and vacuum to remove loose dirt. Wash floor with damp mop and
using cold water and neutral detergent. Replace the water and solution if necessary. Remove
stubborn marks with a non-abrasive pad.
Maintenance: Remove loose dirt with a broom or vacuum cleaner. Wash floor with damp mop and
used cold water.
Cleaning: Frequency of periodic maintenance will depend on the amount of traffic and on the type
of laying. Wash floor with damp mop using cold water and neutral detergent.
Discoloration: Discolouration can occur in any resilient floor covering if it comes into contact with
pigment-containing substances such as bituminous materials, mastic, asphalt, oil, shoes with
black rubber soles, or rubber rollers may cause discoloration.
