This document discusses ResearchSuite, an open source framework for medical research apps. It combines ResearchKit, developed by Apple, and ResearchStack, maintained by Cornell Tech, to allow passive data collection from sensors and active tasks on iOS and Android devices. Some examples of active tasks mentioned are fitness assessments, gait and balance tests, cognition tests, and surveys. Several successful studies using this approach, like mPower and EpiWatch, are highlighted. The document argues that combining passive and active data collection through mobile apps has potential for powerful medical research studies.
