Look: More than 6,000 turn out for Race For Life at
Stoneleigh Park
VIEW GALLERY
Stoneleigh Park was turned in to a sea of pink as thousands of Coventry and Warwickshire women
gave cancer a run for its money.
The annual Race For Life events are held all across the country in aid of Cancer Research UK and
this year's gathering saw more than 6,000 runners take part at Stoneleigh across the weekend.
There were two runs today - a 5k and 10k - which got underway at 11am, while those wanting more
than to just test out their running shoes took on Saturday's Pretty Muddy 5km obstacle event.
Race organiser Emily Thompson said: "We've had about 3,000 runners this morning and the rain
stopped at about 10.15am which made for perfect running conditions.
"There was a really good atmosphere throughout the day and we also had a rock choir come and
sing and also a performance from Impact Dance from Rugby, which made for a fun, family day.
"The weather was also beautiful yesterday for the Pretty Muddy obstacle race, so the 3,400 or so
runners got very muddy and had a fantastic time."
Among those taking part at Stoneleigh were sisters Anisha and Varish Patel who were running in
memory of their mum, Tara, from Binley.
Tara, who worked as a neurophysiologist at University Hospital, was diagnosed with a rare form of
cancer which begins in the bone marrow in March 2014.
She sadly died just weeks after her diagnosis after being referred to a specialist hospital in London,
where her condition dramatically deteriorated.
Anisha, 25, and Varisha, 24, were taking part in Race for Life for the second year running having
raised £3,000 for the charity last year.
