2010 Community Assistance Initiative

Description:
This purpose of this Community Assistance Initiative grant is to assist
Columbus County Schools with establishing the Fair Bluff Career
Technical Academy (the Academy), which will offer a blended high school
curriculum that will integrate core curricula focused on National Industry
Skill Standards. Technical programs offered will include construction
trades, metals manufacturing, culinary arts and communications. Students
may also participate in an Industrial Cooperative Training Program
allowing them to work in local industry. Programs at the Academy will also
align with continuing education programs at Southeastern Community
College allowing students to receive college credit. The school will target
students who have or are at risk of dropping out of high school. The goals
of this project are to reduce dropout rates, increase employer satisfaction
with Columbus County Schools' graduates, decrease remediation rates
and increase enrollment at the local community college.
