1. Change Lives: Fellows
Kiva (www.kiva.org), the “hottest non-profit on the planet” according to
FORTUNE magazine, is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending
website. Kiva’s microfinance institution (MFI) field partners are in fifty-three
countries and post thousands of loans to Kiva.org everyday so that
individual lenders around the world can help to fund the efforts of
microfinance entrepreneurs.
Kiva Fellows are self-funded Kiva representatives with unprecedented
access to a microfinance institution abroad and gain an up close look at
the growing microfinance industry. As a Kiva Fellow, you will:
• Facilitate connections between Kiva’s borrowers and lenders by telling the
stories of entrepreneurs, sharing insights from the ground, and spreading
the word about what microfinance really looks like.
• Maximize the host MFI’s partnership with Kiva by posting on the Kiva
website and increasing the field partners international visibility. Where do volunteers go?

• Use your skills to sustainably train MFI staff on Kiva processes, policies,

What skills make a successful Kiva Fellow?
• Prior experience in a developing country
• Excellent writing abilities, knowledge of various web applications, problem solving skills, a high level of self-
motivation / flexibility and the ability to fundraise for their trip
• Backgrounds in economics, finance, consulting and international development
• Fluent language skills in Arabic, French, Khmer, Mongolian, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili,
Tagalog/Cebuano, Vietnamese
• Or competency in a rarer language: Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bahasa Indonesia, Dari, Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba,
Kinyarwandan, Krio, Kyrgyz, Lingala, Lugandan, Punjabi, Tajiki, Turkish, Twi, Urdu, Wolof
What are the time requirements?
Kiva Fellowships last 12 weeks to one year in the field.
