2. 1.How do you become a star?
• Well placed new stories: Becoming
part of Pop Idol, her boyfriend
cheating on her.
• Famous partner: Safaree Samuels
(music producer)
• Attendance at premiers and
parties at the Oscars with Kim
Kardashian
• Features in magazines – appearing
without her iconic make up and
wigs in Elle Magazine
3. 2. Stars as constructions
• Nicki Minaj is shown to have
real emotions when news
reports say her long term
boyfriend has cheated on her.
• However her unique selling
point is her image of being a
Barbie doll. This was created by
her record label to become an
original pop star.
4. 3. Industry and Audience
• She is presented as a
Barbie doll which gives
the audience what they
want a ‘Barbie doll’ type
person and this personal
is created by her record
label.
• Although this is true the
idea of being in ELLE
magazine without her
make up and wig causes
her to be more relatable
to the audience.
5. 4. Ideology and Culture
• Nicki Minaj has her own K-mart
fashion line for the audience to
enjoy. She has her own fashion
sense but indicates that her
fashion line is for comfort not
her unique look.
• She creates a trend of being
individual and extravagant in the
way her followers dress.
• By appearing on pop idol people
saw a ‘true side’ of her as they
saw her behind the scenes of it
and see how she acts normally.
6. 5. Character and personality
• As a person she has had a hard past which people
will relate to and shows a human side to her. She,
however is shown be a construction as her
character is not real but the foundations of the
hard background are and this is relatable for the
audience.
• She goes against ‘what people are supposed to
look like’ and shows a curvy figure which people
look up to but goes against the idea of thin is
beautiful unlike various other pop stars.
7. It is important to get the right star image as
many pop stars start their career as a performer
and create this idea of being a pop star through
a negative light. Because of this creating the
right new stories and other positive media and
social events means that the pop star would
become a positive role model in todays society
and therefore be a star who is remembered and
goes down in history.
