2. FMP week 1
• My proposal was relatively easy to complete, especially due to my previous projects having a major influence on what I plan
to make. This is because almost all my previous projects had a dark colour scheme and atmosphere, my game, my music
video, and my print project. I also decided to re-use my old video game title as it fits the story I will try to implement
perfectly, especially with how I will focus more on story and characters than before. The title “icarus” helped me to design a
rough idea of what I want to make, and made my proposal a lot easier and I could imagine the game I want to make, and
build more ideas around it including how it would work, the enemy design and the box art/logos. My moodboards gave me
an overall tone/ view on my game, and helped me to put certain ideas together while making it all merge together well. This
is important as if I didn’t merge certain ideas together, my overall idea could have issues with identifying in a certain
genre/style. To improve my work, I could go into more detail on my ideas and WHY I chose them, instead of just the effect
they would have overall. Adding the WHY to my explenation would help me to understand how to implement them properly,
while also knowing how to know if they were implemented correctly, due to seeing how the same features are used on
other forms of media, and the effects they have.
• The knowledge I have for my research and pre-production, is more than enough to allow me to proceed. Since I play Video
games in my spare time, I have plenty of knowledge of how games work and how they get over hurdles video games
typically struggle with, such as standing out from other games and getting a consistent fan base.
• The only research I would benefit from doing now, is branching out my research into other forms of media such as magazine
and tv shows since my research mainly focuses on games. I don’t believe that this hinders me or puts me at a disadvantage
but looking at other forms of media would widen my view on my research.
3. fmp week 2
• my research went incredibly well due to having a good idea of
what i plan on making with my game. firstly i looked at
existing products and annotated the details of selected
images such as gameplay or box art. i looked at different shot
types and the different colours used and what effects they
both had. i decided to look at existing products from games
that have similar aspects to the game i plan on creating such
as genre or art style such as final fantasy or fallout. this
research will benefit my production incredibly as it will give
me a good estimation or what will work best with my art
styles and how it will look when implemented.
4. fmp week 3
• my second week on research was focussing
solely on colour pallettes and how different
games used colour. this research was focussed
directly on 8 bit games so i could get a better
grasp of how games handle the lack of detail
when using 8 bit graphics. games such as dead
cells and undertale were my main games for
inspiration due to the different used of tones
and colours.
5. fmp week4
• when doing pre-production and planning i
made sure that i completely understood what
i was making, and how it being made. a main
aspect of my reflection in planning was
clarifying my audience. this will help me
during my production to hone in on what my
target audience will want from my game so i
can implement it better into my designs. i
have also found examples of the exact colours
i plan on using in my game, and examples of
where they were used.
6. fmp week 5
• my first week of production was very daunting
and i lost track of my schedule completely.
first i started to experiment with 8bit drawing
so i could see if my designs would be
implemented well into actual graphics. i also
started creating my logo so i could the theme
of my logo and see if it can be put into my
character and scene designs.
7. fmp week 6
• my second week into production i decided to
create some character designs and see if any
can be implemented into some of my posters i
have already created. one of my characters is
features on the poster i used as i tried to
implement him as a mascot for my game. i
created 3 character designs and decided to
keep it at that due to not having enough time
and thinking 3 characters were enough.
8. fmp week 7
• my third week of production consisted of
mainly creating a main menu/ box art screen
including a back drop od a destroyed city. i
wanted to create this so i could set the scene
of the game while also showing the characters
off. i made multiple layers of the scene to add
depth and make it look more detailed, while
also making sure that the other layers didnt
have too much detail and draw the users
attention away from the characters
themselves.
9. fmp week 8
• my fourth week of production was slightly
more difficult due to being ill and not being
able to be in college. this meant that i had to
stay at home and do work that didnt require
adobe photoshop due to not having it on my
pc. i decided that doing written practical work
such as writing lore and a review would be the
best idea due to being a necessity and
allowing me to work on my computer.
10. fmp week 9
• my evaluation went quite well as i knew what
my criteria was in detail. i spent alot of time
on my preproduction and planning so i knew
what i had planned for my game so i can
compare to the actualy results. my evaluation
could have been better by me saying how i
would have made my game better and what i
would do next time.
