2. • Music has been around since the
beginning of time. Music players were
invented in the 1800s. Lets take a look at
the evolution of music players
3. The Phonograph
•
In 1877, American inventor Thomas Alva Edison created
the phonograph. Using a sheet of tin foil mounted on a
hand-cranked cylinder, he spoke into it from a
telephone’s mouthpiece, which was connected to a
needle from a telegraph machine. His voice created
vibrations in the needle, which created scratches on the
tin foil. The first words ever to be recorded and played
back were, “Mary had a little lamb/ Its fleece was white
as snow/ And Everywhere that Mary went/ The lamb was
sure to go.”
4. Record Player
His first records were made of
tinfoil. These records had a
spiral groove that went up and
down the surface. A hand-
cranked machine with a pin, or
stylus, was used to read the
grooves of the disc, vibrating
according to the texture, which
was eventually known as the
“hill-and-dale” method. The
vibrations would run up the
stylus
5. The Cassette Player
Invented in 1962, the cassette tape is still
the most widespread method of sound
recording. They’re reliable, cheap and
capable of Hi-Fi stereo sound.
6. The CD Player
Invented by Sony and Philips in 1982, the
Compact Disc or CD wasn’t popular at first
but eventually became the medium of
choice by the end of the ‘80s. CDs
eliminated the hiss of tapes and the snap-
crackle of record players, leaving listeners
with a pure musical experience.
7. MP3 Player

technology has revolutionized the music
industry by allowing people to download,
transfer, rip and share music over the
Internet. You can also share music from
computer to computer.
8. The Future of music
• I think that the future of music is wireless
speakers and computers. People will put
the speaker down and you will control it
from a computer or ipod. It has already
been invented but isnt really popular.
