Fujitsu is very excited about this newest additional to our network scanner family and we are glad that you have chosen to spend some time with us today to learn more about the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner and the Opportunities of Network Scanning in general. The ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner incorporates features and functionality based directly on customer feedback since the introduction of our first network scanner roughly 1 ½ years ago. *click*We have made some major enhancements and that will be the primary focus of today’s webinar. These enhancements include added functionality which translates into better Ease of Use. It includes added flexibility to easily create Customizable interface screens for a consistent user experience. Other enhancements include adding Simple Management tools to make fi-6010N scanner deployment and device maintenance quick and easy to reduce costs. Also, the fi-6010N adds additional secure technology to an already highly secure device. Lastly, when integration outside of the standard functionality is desired, we have some Fujitsu Network Scanner integration solutions that I would like to share and introduce our Software Developer Kit option.
The Base Functionality of the fi-6010N Network Scanner includes Scan to E-mail, Scan to a Shared Folder, Scan to an FTP site, Scan to Print or Scan to Fax. The versatility of this dedicated scanning device enables the fi-6010N to fit in a wide range of applications within businesses. Whether the intention is to enable scanning directly to e-mail, reducing costly fax transmission with electronic faxing or even if the intended use is to scan to a network printer and, in essence, create a color copy machine the fi-6010N has many useful scanning functionalities. Some of the key features which I would like to point out, and which I will cover in more detail later, include LDAP authentication to simply and securely integrate with your existing network login credentials. In addition I will cover three major new enhancements of the fi-6010N (Job Function buttons and Menus, Central Administration Server and Secure SSL transmission protocols).
Designed with ease of use as a one of the top priorities, the Fujitsu fi-6010N offers simple push-button operation as you can see from this screen image. What you are looking at on this slide is the actual user interface screen for the Main Menu options of e-Mail, Fax, Print and Save. The blank button on the lower left portion of this screen print is used for our Software Development Kit integrations which I will cover a bit later in my presentation.Taking the complication out of scanning is an important appeal point of the fi-6010N. To use the device literally takes no training or, at the very least, minimal training. From a deployment standpoint to configure the network scanner to be used on your existing network with your particular network settings couldn’t be any more straight-forward than it is. The system administration only needs some basic network information, configure the device then be up-and-scanning in minutes. These configuration settings can also be done remotely which eliminates the need for a technician to physically be at each device.
As seen in the previous slide, Ease of Use is a great feature of the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner with simple push button operation. Ease of Use, however, is greatly complimented by many advanced features which are performed completely transparent to the operator. This functionality saves a lot of time to automatically performing tasks such as rotating pages to the right-side up direction, deleting blank back side pages or determining whether to save the image in color or black and white format. In addition, the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner automatically deskews and crops images automatically making it ideal for scanning batches of mixed sized documents. The screen itself is an 8.4” XGA display with a high resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. With the ability to preview scanned images before sending them to the desired destination, scanner operators can ensure that documents will not need to be rescanned. In addition, users can zoom, pan across the image, rotate pages, delete pages or Scan More pages to a batch with ease using the simple touch screen display.
Job Function buttons add another level of customization to enhance the user experience. This functionality has many benefits including the ability to pre-configure these buttons with specific scanner settings and a sequence of actions to perform by simply pressing this one button. As you can imagine this is extremely useful to save time for routine or repetitive tasks.Sometimes in an organization it is not desirable to make so many scanning options available to users for either corporate IT policy reasons or simply to avoid confusion. In these situation the fi-6010N has the ability to show only the Job Menu to particular users or groups of users at the system administrators discretion. The device would then be locked down and provide these users to access only certain functionality to achieve better control over the fi-6010N network scanners on the corporate network.Another benefit is the ability to have the same menu consistently presented to the users based on their network login credentials. In other words, Bob (who works in Accounting) would see his unique screen when he logs in to the fi-6010N while Mary (who works in Human Resources) would see a completely different Job Menu. These menus can also to presented to individual users in the language most comfortable to them as the fi-6010N supports all international languages including English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, French, German and others.
So now we’ve covered some of the unique and appealing points of the fi-6010N network scanner including the enhanced User Experience with the large 8.4” (1024 x 768) XGA touch screen, full US101 keyboard and customizable Job Function buttons so now I would like to briefly cover some of the not-so obvious features of security concerns. Many of these features either directly assist in aiding with compliance, such as HIPAA in Healthcare or Sarbanes-Oxley for general business, or they can help your organization prove adherence to regulation. The fi-6010N network scanner is engineered with many secure features which should be of interest for any organization. Some of these features include an encrypted hard disk drive, secure login authentication (as seen in this particular slide), enhanced security via use of Secure Socket Layer protocols for the piece-of-mind that you data is safe. From logging into the device, managing devices on your network or the actual transmission of the data itself, the fi-6010N keeps your sensitive data locked down and controller.
A network scanner presents a whole host of benefits over traditional document scanners and I would now like to move onto the topics of Document Scanner ‘Deployment’ and on-going ‘Maintenance’ of these networked devices. By nature, a network scanning device is a device that is obviously directly attached to your network and thus should always be available to users and system administrators alike. The new Central Administration Server software, which comes pre-loaded on the fi-6010N’s hard disk drive, allows system administrators to install this useful device management utility to effectively and easily manage every fi-6010N on your network. With simple point and click operation, getting your Central Administration Server created is extremely easy and once installed allows system administrators to push out configuration changes, system updates or patches to individual network scanners, departments, remote offices or even on a worldwide basis safely and securely over the internet.
As we’ve seen the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner network scanner is an extremely flexible device and offers a pleasant user experience via the large touch screen and keyboard, it offers user customizable interface screens via the Job Function Menu and it’s a highly secure device with enhanced SSL technology; however, sometimes a tighter integration with other systems is a requirement. In these cases, Fujitsu offers an optional Software Developers Kit to Create Connection to 3rd Party applications or to Develop direct integration with Enterprise Content Management systems.Imagine how much organizations can increase productivity be allowing persons typically most knowledgeable of certain documents the ability to enter corresponding metadata at the instant that the images are created? No longer would there be any delays with getting information into your repository and no additional costs having additional index operators. For example, with the Software Developer’s Kit any developer familiar with standard Microsoft development tools can create seamless integrations directly to accounting, legal or other Line of Business applications.
To illustrate the flexibility of Software Developer Kit integration I would like to present one of the fi-6010N integrations and visually walk you through the steps. As you can see, the look and feel of the interface screens can be completely customized. In this case we are looking at an EMR, or Electronic Medical Records, application for scanning and delivering images directly into the proper patient file location of a back-end repository. In step one of the first screen I choose the appropriate document category, either Billing or Patient Charts. In this case, we choose Billing. *click* Then the fi-6010N integration talks with the back-end repository to query the system and populate the Document Types associated with the Billing document category. Then as a doctor or nurse I would have already known my Patient ID and enter number value in the Patient ID field and the Patient Last Name and Patient First Name are automatically populated from my back-end system eliminating the redundant task of typing this information. Next I pick my exact Document Type which is Correspondence from the menu, press the scan button and preview the image. If the image quality is to my satisfaction I simply press the *click* Save button to commit this image directly to my EMR application demonstrating tremendous compliance with regulations in Healthcare such as the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act, or HIPAA.
Here is another example of one of the Fujitsu network scanner integrations. As you can see this has a different look and feel to the previous slide. In this particular instance this integration used all the standard buttons and interface screens included in the Software Developer’s Kit. So, walking through the sequence of events would be for the operator to login to the scanner first. This is using Fujitsu’s LDAP authentication method I mentioned at the begin portion of this presentation which uses existing network credentials of User Name and Password. The user then would scan the images *click* as they normally would but notice the layout of the screen is much different. The buttons are in different locations. *click* Once the document has been scanned then the user would pick a Destination in the repository from the dropdown option menu. Next the corresponding Document Type for this particular destination would be populated directly from the back-end system. Add index values, or metadata, that you would like to associate with this particular image, press the Upload button on the lower-left portion of the screen and your image plus index values are placed right into your Enterprise Content Repository.
Now I would like to present my second to last slide and provide the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price, Part Number and Availability of the Fujitsu ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner network scanner. The ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner part number is PA03544-B205 and the MSRP is $2,995. This price includes all the standard functionality I’ve described including Scan to E-mail, Folder, FTP, Network Fax and Print. It also includes the new Job Function button and Menu capability as well as the Central Administration Server. So there is no additional costs for the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner itself. If you were interested in one of the SDK integrations or about the Software Developer’s Kit then please contact us for more information.Fujitsu has many programs in place for interested customers to try our products in your particular environment and scanning your exact documents so please feel free to either contact us or one of our Distribution Partners to learn more.
