With the coronavirus pandemic putting a halt to most sporting activities, different leagues around the world have stepped in to support local communities.

In England, the Premier League –
collectively and individually through its
clubs – has taken various steps to help
and provide much-needed support
to the health fraternity and affected
communities.
Financial Relief for Lower-tier
Clubs
In early April 2020, League stakeholders
discussed the need to provide short-
term financial relief to clubs in tiers
below the Premier League to help with
cash flow. Specifically, the League voted
to advance funds of £125 million to the
National League and English Football
League (EFL) to mitigate the financial
distress faced by member clubs.
Supporting the National Health
Service (NHS)
The League is committed to providing
support to the National Health Service,
its staff and the most vulnerable people
in communities. Monetarily, the Premier
League committed £20 million to help
the NHS continue to reach those in need
during the crisis.
Individual Club Support
Individual Premier League clubs
have undertaken various actions to
collaborate with the NHS and support
local communities. For instance,
Tottenham Hotspur FC has been
delivering fresh produce from its Kitchen
Garden to vulnerable groups within the
area. The food, which is grown at the
club’s Training Centre, is delivered to the
Haringey food distribution hub.
