Jessy J Advert
1. The onlyimage that has beenusedis an image of Jessie
J. Blackand white isthe maintwocolourson thisimage,
the black nail polish, clothes, lipstick, eye shadow, and
hair all match the theme of the advert colour. These
colours have been used to make the text on the page
stand out more.
The artist’s style is the brand the advert is trying to
portray,because it’sall blackit makesJessie seemmore
edgy. This links to Davis Buckingham’s theory because
Jessie ispushingthe typical stereotype of the genre she
is related to which is pop. Jessie like Buckingham’s said
is developing and changing here genre, usually the pop
genre is bright an colourful but Jessie J opposes this
because she haschosentowearall blackandtake all the
colours out of the pop genre convention.
The gold writing is the colour of jewel so this links well
with the image and colour of the background because
the colour black need spicing up with some jewel. The
positioning of the text emphasises the placing of jewel
and it also showsthat where this womanis her name is
known to her face.
The image goes well with the background because it is
continued from the clothes Jessie J is wearing, it could
represent that she proudly wears these comments
because they emphasise how much talent she has.
The iconographyrepresentsJessie Jbecause she triesto
be powerful withher music and take down stereotypes
and this image shows this very well because she is
overpowering the advert and making sure people know
that she isnot to be messedwith.Thismakeshera role
model towomen,because she isallowingthemtoknow
that taking control is acceptable.
An audience forthisadvert wouldbe olderteens to pre
25. Jessie J would have a compilation of her own fan
base,wholike allthe style thatshe portraystothem,she
does however keep the rocky edgy pop theme going.
David Buckingham theory states ‘Genre is not
simply give by the culture, rather, it is in a
constant process of negotiation and change’.
Jessie J perfectly fits in with his theory because
she hashadto change herstyle againandagainto
keepup withthe popgenre, but she give out her
own style with the clothes she chooses to wear,
and the different lip designs are linked to her.
Nicholas Abercrombie is right when he says that
producers exploit the genres, in this case the
record company have mentioned the song ‘Price
Tag’ because theyknowithas positive reviewsso
it is a huge selling point from their point of view.
Alsothis allowsthe audience togain trust in that
buying this album will be beneficial because the
songs will be the same type of things, so they
know they will like the album.
Andrew Goodwin starts that one of his theory’s
say that the record label demand a lot of close-
ups,thisisnotexactlywhattheyhavebeengiven,
they have been given a medium, close-up. This
could be because the record label do need to
show the artists face but they need to show the
artists persona for this certain album/advert. He
alsosays that at time there are linksbetweenthe
lyrics and visuals, in thiscase the lyrics represent
the text.
The text links with the visuals because the text
says Jessie J’s name and Jessie J is visible on the
image. The text ‘Whoare you’ is amplifiedwithin
the image because it shows how sassy these
wordswhere meanto be by the lookon Jessie J’s
face.Alsohe mentionsthe notionof looking,and
this image shows that Jessie J is looking straight
into the audience’s faces and making them want
to be drawn in to buy her album.
