Ms. Goins' Lesson Plan
1. Lesson Plan: Sentence Structure w/ Flash Cards &Socrative
Description: I will be using pre-made cards containing words and punctuation to teach
students the basic features of a sentence structure. Students will collaborate and come up with
the correct simple sentences in a few groups of 5+ depending on class size. I will monitor each
group, answering questions, if any, and help rearrange incorrect sentences. After we conclude
this exercise, I will assess student’s knowledge by using the quiz I have created using Socrative.

Grade 1: Print Concepts
1. Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of
print.
a. Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence (e.g., first word,
capitalization, ending punctuation).
Lesson Plan:
Introduction (5-10): For today’s portion of writing we will be learning how to write a
proper sentence. We will be in 5 groups of 5. I am going to start the count off. When I
point at you, please say a number, 1-5 depending on the person who goes before you
(counts to the first set of 5). After choosing groups we will sit with our partners at a table
with the cards. Please do not start looking at the cards until after I start the timer.
Remember, you have 10 minutes to make a complete sentence with correct
capitalization and punctuation. Each of you are going to get a piece of paper and should
write down the sentence in the order your group came up with. Make sure to put your
name, table number and the date on your papers. After we are done we will go over
each of the sentences together.
What is the Assignment? I am going to shuffle sentences, including punctuation, written
on out of order. The students should already have a basic understanding of simple 3-4
letter words. I will then have students arrange themselves in the order they believe the
sentence should be written. Once they come up with the proper order, students will
write down the sentence, with proper punctuation, which they come up with. After all of
the groups are finished, students will share their sentences with classmates. I will help
them rearrange their sentences if the class as a whole cannot fix them. Then I will
monitor which students grasped my lesson using Socrative quizzes.
2. Sentence Structure w/ Socrative: Students will work together in an effort to recognize
and understand sentence structure and the distinguishing features of a sentence. They
will collaborate in groups to solve a problem and be assessed using a quiz via Socrative.
Following the quiz results, I will be able to see which students need more practice than
others. I can also set aside to help those students.
