1. Opportunities
Every project gives you opportunities to create but also constraints to work to. Use this hand out to
consider the opportunities this project has to help you improve your skills, knowledge and creativity.
Opportunities
What creative opportunities can you see in this project? How could you challenge yourself
creatively in this project? You can refer to your previous experience here.
In this project the creative opportunities in this aren’t any different to ones that I have had in
other tasks; I will be using Photoshop to create my work or InDesign which have been used in
previous tasks, multiple times.
I could also create a cardboard cut out to stand in shop windows, this would catch peoples
attention because of how big it is, and if it where in shop windows then this would make people
think that they should buy it because it must be popular to be put in the front of a shop.
What technical opportunities for development are available in this project? What technical
challenges could you set yourself? You can refer to your previous experience here.
Opportunities for development that I can have in this project are that I could take something
old and make it new, for example use an old IRN-BRU house style, and change it in to something
new by adding new things too it, for example images, text and colour schemes.
The opportunities for development that I could use for the cardboard cut out are new and
different because this won’t be something that I’ll have done before, so this is a new challenge
for me to take on.
How could the skills you are using and developing here be useful in a professional context?
Consider the requirements for different job roles.
These won’t really be useful in a professional context but I suppose you could think of it as
being creative by taking something old and turning it in to something new, though I’m sure
most people could come up with doing this.
Both of these wouldn’t work in most job roles because they like things to be different and
unique, and by doing what I stated earlier this isn’t really different, or original. Some companies
may find this interesting though. Doing a cardboard cut out is still quite a new and modern
thing so this could be seen as original maybe if I got in with the right company.
What opportunities for designing for different media does this project give you? Which final
product type interests you the most and why?
This project gives you a lot of freedom in some sense because you can basically put the
advertisement wherever you wish, which is good because you need to be able to think for
yourself at some point.
