1. SAB Cristal 410 Concentrate
Description
SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate is a waterproofing and protection system for concrete
constructions. SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate works through internal crystallization based on
special chemicals, cement and sand.
SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate penetrates deep into the pores, the capillaries and
shrinkage cracks and forms crystals who block the penetration of water.
Independent of a negative or positive water pressure on the treated surface, SAB 410
Cristal Concentrate forms crystals and blocks the penetration of water.
In the absence of water, there is no reaction and the chemicals remain present in a
“sleeping” state. When contact with water occurs, the reaction starts again and the chemicals
penetrate further. This process continues until all active ingredients of SAB 410 Cristal
Concentrate have participated in the crystallization process.
Applications
SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate is applied to concrete and cement structures where liquid
water needs to be kept in or kept out.
Examples: reservoirs, water treatment plants, aquariums, tunnels, foundations,
underground structures, sewers, industrial processing plants, parking decks, road decks and
all structures to be waterproofed and protected against chemical degradation.
Properties of SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate
• Barely reduces vapour permeability.
• Penetrates in depth and makes capillary ducts and shrinkage cracks (up to 0.25 mm wide)
watertight.
• Can be applied to the water or facing side (e.g. exteriors of swimming pools, cellar
interiors).
• The water-tightness and chemical resistance remain, even where there is damage to the
surface.
• Easy to apply.
• No protection needed for the application of filler or other products
• Can be applied both to fresh and old concrete.
2. • Water-tightness: concrete with two layers of SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate (0,8
kg/m²/layer) is completely watertight after
4 days (Magnel Laboratory report for 2001/056 – KA/MS concrete study).
• SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate is resistant to frost-thaw cycles in accordance with NBN B05-
203 (Magnel Laboratory report for 2000/630 – KA/CM concrete study).
• Chemical protection: the SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate layer is resistant to thawing salts,
sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid for at least 35 days (Magnel Laboratory report for
2000/630 – KA/CM concrete study).
• Concrete treated with SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate bridges over cracks (BECETEL expert’s
report n° 5247).
• No special after-care required except in the event of extremely high temperatures and low
humidity.
• Non-toxic (compatible with potable water applications).
• Consumption: 1,6 kg/m² in two layers.
• Minimum processing temperature: 5°C.
• Shelf life: 12 months after production date in original, unopened and undamaged
packaging, stored in a dry place with temperatures between +10°C and +30°C.
General instructions for the application of
SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate
1 Preparation of the surface
• The surfaces to be treated (concrete, concrete blocks, cement plaster) must be in good
condition and free of dirt, earth, concrete milk and other products which could adversely
affect the SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate adhesion, penetration or effect.
• Roughen very slippery concrete surfaces with sand or water jets.
The surface must be porous.
• Grind cracks, bigger than 0,25 mm, to a depth of 2 to 2,5 cm.
• Remove poor concrete until sound concrete is reached.
• Slightly wet the surface before applying SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate.
Water must be present in the concrete for the
SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate chemicals to penetrate well.
2 Mixing of SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate
Application with a brush: Mix 7 to 8 litres of water with 25 kg of
SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate Application with a spray-gun: Mix 8 litres of water with 25 kg
of SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate (depending on temperature and device) SAB 410 Cristal
Concentrate has to be mixed to the consistency of a thick latex paint. Mix the substance
frequently during the processing. Only prepare as much material as can be processed in 35
minutes.
3 Applying SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate
• Apply SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate using a brush or spray-gun.
• Apply SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate to wet concrete in two layers
3. with a consumption of approximately 1,6 kg/m².
Hardening
No measures are required to promote hardening, except in the event of
high temperatures and low humidity. In the latter case, after application
of SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate the surface has to be slightly wetted as
soon as the SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate is sufficiently hard. Wetting the
surface once to three times on the first day is usually adequate.
Packaging
Sacs of 25 kg.
Precautionary measures and safety recommendations
• SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate is alkaline.
• Long-term contact can irritate the skin, therefore use rubber gloves, boots and protective
clothing when mixing and applying.
• Use safety glasses when spraying and applying above the head.
• SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate’s effect on the skin can be
neutralized by washing the skin with household vinegar thinned with water.
• In the event of contact with the eyes: rinse thoroughly for at least 10 minutes and consult
a doctor.
• Protect the fresh SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate layer against being dried out too quickly by
the sun and wind.
• SAB 410 Cristal Concentrate is not toxic
