Natural Disaster Monitoring by SensorWeb Technology in Thailand
1) Thailand developed a sensorweb using data from satellites like MODIS, EO-1, and TRMM to detect and monitor natural disasters like floods and forest fires.
2) The sensorweb was able to trigger high resolution satellite images to closely monitor flood and fire events.
3) A Thai Citizen Observation Program was also established with a few weather stations to expand monitoring through citizen involvement.

3. What is SensorWeb Technology?
The main objective of the sensorweb activity is to create an
interoperable environment for a diverse set of satellite sensors via
the use of software and the Internet.

22. Thai Citizen Observation Program (TCOP)
•Objective is to monitor flood by citizen network
information sharing.
•Private weather stations real time data feeding.
•Present information at the same website (Google
Map)
•Mimi the idea from Citizen Weather Observation
Program (CWOP) in the USA.
26. There are only 3 stations installed so far; one at
DanLoas Moutain Range, Sri Kil, Korat and two more
at Ke-Re-Wong and Krung-Ching Moo 8

29. Conclusions
• Thailand SensorWeb will last until at least until
early 2013
• The operation consider to be a successful one
as we can provide information to both
government agencies and the public
• Thai Flood is a unique people networking
• Thai Citizen Observation Program (TCOP) will
install more weather stations in the near future to
expand people network.
• In the near future, we will be able to use VIIRS
fire products to trigger the fire sensorweb.
