The George Kahn Quintet Raises 10,000 Dollars to Help LA’s Homeless
(LOS ANGELES) – Jazz enthusiasts gathered once again in Hollywood to enjoy the music of The George
Kahn Quintet while at the same time raising money to help the homeless. This was Kahn’s third year
hosting a benefit concert to raise money for the homeless and, according to those in attendance, this
year’s event was better than ever!
Sponsored by Skyline Financial Corp., Bocarsly Emden, and Killefer Flammang Architects, the Quintet
packed Catalina Bar and Grill with over 100 in attendance. Proceeds from the event, totaling nearly
$10,000, will go to PATH Ventures, a nonprofit organization building affordable homes for homeless and
low income people throughout Los Angeles County.
The George Kahn Quintet featured an all‐star band of LA's best studio musicians: George on piano, John
Fumo on Trumpet, Pat Kelley on guitar, Karl Vincent on bass and M.B. Gordy on drums. In addition,
special guest vocalists “The Wright Combination” and Cathy Segal‐Garcia added their singing talents to
the event.
PATH Ventures Executive Director, Shane Murphy Goldsmith, called the event a resounding success.
She says, “We almost doubled our proceeds from last year. I think the increase is a reflection of the
growing awareness throughout the community that we are all hurt by this challenging economy, and all
need to do what we can to help solve the crisis of homelessness.”
With the overwhelming support for this year’s event, Goldsmith has no doubt next year’s will be even
bigger, stating “PATH Ventures is pioneering creative solutions to the housing crisis just like George
Kahn is on the cutting edge of West Coast jazz. It’s the perfect marriage.”
The mission of PATH Ventures is to improve individual lives and communities by increasing quality
affordable housing and creating opportunities for economic, civic, and personal empowerment. PATH
