7. Explore posted jobs

8. In the “Jobs” screen, click the “Advanced Job Search” tab to enter criteria for your job search

9. First you will see paid postings on LinkedIn that meet your criteria Click the “see more jobs” hyperlink to view additional postings

10. See if anyone who works at the hiring company is already in your network Click on a job hyperlink to see a position description

12. From the “Companies” menu, drill down to find target industries

13. Within your target industry search, you can enter more criteria (location, company size, etc.)

14. You can research specific a specific company

15. Click the company name in the search results list for a brief description

16. In the company’s detailed profile, reviewing the information in the “Related companies” box will help you identify hiring trends and find additional companies to explore “ Former Employees” tells you if a lot of people have recently left

17. “ New Hires” and “Recent Promotions and Changes” help you identify hiring trends

18. Use company profile employee lists to see who is already in your network

19. Use “People”, “Advanced Search” to identify company insiders and hiring managers

21. Use “Colleagues” and “Classmates” capability under “Add Connections” to find former co-workers and fellow students

22. When you view someone’s profile, look at “Other profiles viewed” to identify more potential contacts

24. Find & join “Groups” to connect with people who share your interests

25. When you’ve found a group that looks interesting, click the “Join Group” button

26. Make sure to join networking groups for recruiters in your target industry If you can’t find a group, you can start one yourself!

When you receive a notification that you’ve been accepted into a group, review and click the boxes next to each item on this screen to choose how much e-mail communication about group activity you want to receive. Next click the blue “Join Group” button Owners of some groups will review your profile before accepting you as a member; some may ask you for additional information

28. Change your group communication choices at any time by clicking the group’s logo in your profile, then selecting “My Settings” under the “More” tab

29. You can review job postings within your groups These are DIFFERENT jobs from those you will find on the main LinkedIn “Jobs” tab small and large groups!!!

30. Participate in or start discussions within your groups. Ask questions to help you find people you are interested in communicating with.

After you become a member of a group, you can see other members’ profiles under the “More” tab (this is actually the same as the “Advanced People” search) Review their profiles to see what other groups they belong to that may also be of interest to you You can contact fellow group members, even if you aren’t directly connected

33. You can list your availability in group discussions BUT DON’T DO THIS!!

34. The “Answers” section is an easy, free way to quickly get an inside track on industry news

35. By answering questions, you can build your reputation as a subject matter expert

37. Use applications like “Slide Share”, “Box.Net” and “WordPress”

38. Include presentations, files and blogs on your profile to encourage more traffic You can even attach your resume to your profile using Box.Net or WordPress!
