  1. The National e-Science Centre coordinates the e-Science effort for the UK. It has a number of activities, one of which is research. This research is interdisciplinary, where Informatics is applied in the context of solving large and complex scientific problems. Such problem solving requires much computational effort and often involves large amounts of data. In this talk I will show the two major components of our research by providing examples of our research projects: 1. To apply Informatics to solve scientific computational problems and 2. to find better ways of organising and facilitating systems that enable these solutions.
