2. Meryl Comer
Award-winning broadcast journalist
President, Geoffrey Beene Foundation Alzheimer’s Initiative
Meryl Comer is an enlightening and engaging speaker with more than 30 years of
broadcast journalism experience. An Emmy award-winning reporter, producer,
moderator and talk show host, Comer was among the first female broadcasters to
specialize in business news as it relates to public policy. For 18 years, she wrote and
moderated It’s Your Business, a nationally syndicated debate program on economic,
business and political issues. She also co-anchored Nation’s Business Today for six years
on ESPN, anchored the 10 O’Clock Nightly News for Metromedia, and hosted talk shows
for network affiliates in Boston and Washington, D.C.
Comer was one of the first women in syndicated business news to share a wake-up call to our generation about
the dark side of “the longevity revolution.” Considered one of the leading Alzheimer’s activists in the country,
she serves as president of the Geoffrey Beene Foundation Alzheimer’s Initiative and is the winner of the 2005
Shriver Profiles in Dignity Award and the 2007 Proxmire Award. As the primary caregiver for a husband
suffering from Alzheimer’s for more than 16 years, Comer speaks from a personal expertise that takes your
breath away with both insight and humor into the emotional, physical and financial strains on families whose
loved one’s illness—be it stroke, depression, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s—includes a memory deficit. Her
forthcoming book, “Slow Dancing with a Stranger,” will benefit Alzheimer’s research.
Comer serves on the boards of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and the National
Alzheimer’s Association. She was formerly a director of Carnival Hotels & Casinos International, Inc., CHC
Canada, LTD, and the Eureka Foundation; and she served on the advisory boards of Women of Washington,
The National Women’s Economic Alliance Foundation, and the Center for International Private Enterprise. A
graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Comer lives in the greater Washington D.C. area.
