13. CLOSING CEREMONY
The 2008 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony concluded
the Beijing Games on 24 August 2008. It began at 8:00 pm
and took place at the National Stadium of Beijing.
The Ceremony included the handover of the Games from
Beijing to London. Guo Jinlong, the Mayor of Beijing
handed over the Olympic flag to the Mayor of London Boris
Johnson, followed by a performance. This presentation
included performances by guitarist Jimmy Page, and
recording artist Leona Lewis.

1985, is a retired American swimmer and
the most decorated Olympian of all time,
with a total of 22 medals. Phelps also
holds the all-time records for Olympic

(13). In winning eight gold medals at the
2008 Beijing Games, Phelps took the
record for the most first-place finishes at
any single Olympic Games.

is a Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as
the fastest person ever. He is the first
man to hold both the 100 metres and
200 metres world records since fully
automatic time measurements became
mandatory in 1977. Along with his
teammates, he also set the world record
in the 4×100 metres relay.
In the Olympic Games of Beijing in 100 m
final, Bolt broke new ground, winning in
9.69 s with a reaction time of 0.165 s.
