Interviewing a Peer
Your assignment is to interview the person Mrs. Scott assigned you in class. Use the
following steps as a guide:
1. Before you begin, spend 30 seconds observing the person. Take notes on
what you see.
2. Decide if there is something specific you would like to know about the person
(for example: what do they do over summer?)
3. Write down 7-10 open-ended questions in the space below that will help
answer the specific topic you are interested in.
4. Once you have finished these steps take turns interviewing each other using
the top 10 interviewing tips as a guide.

Once your interview is completed, review the information you have collected.
Are there any additional questions you need to ask to complete your story?
Make sure you have all the information you need and then write a brief (150-
300 word) story about the person you interviewed based on what you found
out. At this point DO NOT worry about using correct news style. We will get to
that later in the year.
