2. Dear critical infrastructure professional,
We would like to invite you to join us for the second ZONeSEC pilot
demonstration. The ZONeSEC project, funded by the European Commission’s
Seventh Framework Programme, develops an integrative and affordable solution
for the surveillance of large critical infrastructures (or widezones), such as
highways, gas or oil pipelines, electricity networks or water facilities. The ZONeSEC
system was built primarily to detect, localize and alert on illicit activities directed
at the infrastructure’s assets, thus to improve situational awareness of extensive
areas.
The ZONeSEC consortium has benefited from end-users’ feedback, which has
been highly valuable in the project’s development over the last three years.
Information about the security concerns of different types of critical
infrastructure, existing surveillance systems, security arrangements, work in
Control Rooms, etc. have helped us better understand the challenges of
widezone surveillance.
As we reach another critical phase in the evolution of the project – the
second pilot demonstration – we count again on the expertise of our
stakeholders.
We hope you can join us for the upcoming pilot demonstration,
taking place in Târgu Mureș (Romania), on 21-22 June 2018.
Our host will be Aquaserv S.A., a company that provides
drinking water and wastewater services to approximately
300.000 inhabitants. This means we will deploy the ZONeSEC
system at Aquaserv and demonstrate how it serves the
surveillance needs not only of the host itself, but also of water
facilities in general, and even of other types of critical
infrastructure.
This interactive pilot will serve as an opportunity for us
to share with you the innovations of the ZONeSEC
system and of individual surveillance technologies. It will
also allow us to demonstrate our progress so far and
gather your feedback.
3. ZONeSEC technologies to be demonstrated at Aquaserv include:
· Sensors:
o Ground-based: novel (e.g. spectral imaging system, acceleration
sensors, acoustic and temperature sensors, video analytics, MIMO-
radar), as well as legacy systems (e.g. SCADA);
o Airborne: a mini-UAV sub-system that allows for rapid, semi-automatic
deployment of UAVs (with different detection capabilities) to remote
areas;
· Surveillance, Detection and Alerts Information Management (SDAIM),
which analyses data and automatically fuses the events detected so as to
send meaningful alerts to the Control Centre.
· Common Operational Picture (COP), the sole user interface that displays
data from other components, including alerts once illicit activities are
detected;
· EU-WSRT, a software tool allowing critical infrastructure operators to
assess the risks of their widezone, and issuing recommendations for
improving on surveillance.
During the event, we kindly ask you to take the role of assessing the
ZONeSEC system. This will be a hands-on, interactive pilot
demonstration.
