       The power of the
            Word

       Connections come
          from words
Entrance Hymn – Blaenwern
Love divine, all loves excelling,       Finish, then, Thy new creation;
Joy of heaven to earth come down; Pure and spotless let us be.
Fix in us thy humble dwelling; Let us see Thy great salvation
All thy faithful mercies crown!         Perfectly restored in Thee;
Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Changed from glory into glory,
Pure unbounded love Thou art; Till in heaven we take our place,
Visit us with Thy salvation; Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Enter every trembling heart. Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Come, Almighty to deliver,
Let us all Thy life receive;
Suddenly return and never,
Never more Thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
Pray and praise Thee without ceasing,
Glory in Thy perfect love.
Friends in Christ, we are assembled here today
by God, and in His presence. We as his
children are receiving a kingdom that is
completely secure and so we must be thankful
and worship God acceptably with reverence
  and awe.
We will give thanks to God that he sent his only
Son, Jesus Christ into our world; that Jesus
died on the cross at Calvary to pay the penalty
for our sin and rose from the dead to be the
first of many to live after they have died.
To prepare ourselves let us hear from
          the Word of God:
“For Christ died for sins once for all, the
righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to
  God.” 1 Peter 3:18

“Worthy is the lamb (Jesus Christ) who was
slain, to receive power and wealth and
wisdom and strength and honour and glory
 and praise.” Revelation 5:12
The Response
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father,
You know our thoughts and the things we do.
We are sorry for the hurt we have caused others
And the ways in which we have not pleased you.
Forgive us, we pray, for all of these things and give
us strength to resist the evil we face from day to
  day.
Lead us into your way of truth and love.
Help us to make a new start
We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord
AMEN
Because of Jesus’ death on the cross, when we
ask to be forgiven, God is faithful and just and
will forgive our sins and remember them no
  more.

Thanks be to God.
Bible Reading – Tom Broinowski
The lesson for this second Sunday before Lent is taken from the Gospel of St John, chapter1
beginning to read at verse 1:

The Word Became Flesh
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was
with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was
made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify
concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he
came only as a witness to the light.
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the
world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He
came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive
him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of
God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory
of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The Lord be with you
And also with you.
                       Our Father, in heaven,
Let us pray. hallowed be your name.
                       Your Kingdom come,
                       Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
                       Forgive us our sins,
                       as we forgive those
                       who sin against us.
                       Lead us not into temptation,
                       but deliver us from evil.
                       For the kingdom, the power
                       and the glory are yours,
                       Now and for ever.
                                                     Amen
Lord we thank you for the young people of our community and for the vision, enthusiasm
and vitality which they bring to our common life. We pray for all children and youth, and
especially for those in need. Give them a firm trust in your loving and eternal purposes.
 Lord hear our prayer.
Lord we pray for all those suffering and in special need – for the sick, the
unemployed, the lonely, the misfortunate, the homebound and homeless. Lord we make
special mention of those suffering in Syria. We pray, especially, for Chloe Palmer and her
family who are dealing with critical injuries suffered in a car accident. As the God of all
comfort help them to experience the power and consolation of your love.
Lord hear our prayer.
We remember prisoners and their families, the victims of crime and their families.
Magistrates and all who administer our laws.
Lord hear our prayer.
Almighty God our Heavenly Father, your Son Jesus Christ shared in the life of an earthly
home at Nazareth. Bless our homes and school we pray. Help parents and teachers to
care for children with love and to impart the knowledge of Christ to them. Help us to be
servants of each other and to be hospitable and caring for others. Provide for our needs
and keep us from hurting each other. Fill our homes and school with peace and joy.

Lord hear our prayer
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
                                         AMEN.
Gradual Hymn (St Denio)
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.

All laud we would render; O help us to see
’This only the splendour of light hideth Thee,
And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,
Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.

We are all connected
SET
Words create thoughts; connections
Jesus is the Word – the connection
             with God
It is the power of the connection.
That is what we strive to develop.
Lord of the Dance
I danced in the morning I danced on a Friday
When the world was begun, When the sky turned black -
And I danced in the moon It's hard to dance
And the stars and the sun, With the devil on your back.
And I came down from heaven They buried my body
And I danced on the earth, And they thought I'd gone,
At Bethlehem But I am the Dance,
I had my birth. And I still go on.
Chorus:
Dance, then, wherever you may be, Chorus
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, They cut me down
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he.   And I leapt up high;
                                               I am the life
I danced for the scribe                        That'll never, never die;
And the pharisee, I'll live in you
But they would not dance If you'll live in me -
And they wouldn't follow me. I am the Lord
I danced for the fishermen, Of the Dance, said he.
For James and John -
They came with me Chorus
And the Dance went on.
The Blessing
The Lord be with you
And with Your Spirit
Let us depart in Peace
In the name of the Lord - Amen

  • 10. Gradual Hymn (St Denio) Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love. To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee. All laud we would render; O help us to see ’This only the splendour of light hideth Thee, And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart, Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.

  • 21. Lord of the Dance I danced in the morning I danced on a Friday When the world was begun, When the sky turned black - And I danced in the moon It's hard to dance And the stars and the sun, With the devil on your back. And I came down from heaven They buried my body And I danced on the earth, And they thought I'd gone, At Bethlehem But I am the Dance, I had my birth. And I still go on. Chorus: Dance, then, wherever you may be, Chorus I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, They cut me down And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he. And I leapt up high; I am the life I danced for the scribe That'll never, never die; And the pharisee, I'll live in you But they would not dance If you'll live in me - And they wouldn't follow me. I am the Lord I danced for the fishermen, Of the Dance, said he. For James and John - They came with me Chorus And the Dance went on.
