Mobile & Touch Screen devices are attached to everyone’s hip now a days. People are not disconnected from technology for more than a couple of minutes at a time. As these new technologies continue to progress, you must keep in mind how can these technology trends help you to deliver training / education programs more efficiently. Considering deploying iPads to your Help Desk staff for learning? Don’t forget that Apple and Adobe do not get along, therefore any eLearning that utilizes Adobe Flash will not work with an iPad…. FOR NOW! Social Media: I check my facebook at least 8 times per day when I am not traveling. Farmville has over 80 million users! Mafia Wars has more than 45 million users per month. Can you take these addictive game concepts and incorporate them into your training efforts? Wouldn’t it be great to have your learners caring about their professional development / training the way that they care about maintaining their fake farm or growing their fake mafia? Let’s put these great concepts to use for something worth being addicted to? Don’t forget, there are millions and millions of YouTube videos that can be very useful to help you drive home core learning concepts and provide real world examples. Mostly free of charge! Ironically, in a report from October, 2009, at least 50% of organizations block access to social media sites including YouTube. Idea to consider: How about a Corporate YouTube with your interal team’s favorite educational videos. Wiki’s, Blogs, etc… all help to keep the learner more engaged.
