Accessible applications and content allow all users to complete the same tasks and learn the same things simply and easily. This is the principle of universal design. At Blackboard, we take an approach to accessibility that extends beyond the LMS. While we work hard to ensure the accessibility of our interactions, we also work just hard to educate and support instructors in making their content accessible. This discussion will share research that Blackboard has done to understand the issues that instructors face when they make their content accessible. Blackboard will share how they have made the interactions in Learn accessible and offer realistic and effective action that instructors can take to bring universal design to their online teaching. Delivered at Innovate and Educate: Teaching and Learning Conference by Blackboard. 24 -27 August 2015 in Adelaide, Australia.

In 2013, Media Access Australia’s Education Manager Anne McGrath presented at the 27th Australian and New Zealand Conference for Educators of the Deaf (ANZCED). The presentation, ‘Beyond access – using captions to teach skills and concepts’, considers the use of words in the context of accessibility, as well as challenges regarding captions for educators to think about. What to do with all these words and how to optimise their use? An excerpt from the presentation starts the conversation.

When it comes to accessibility on your campus, whose responsibility is it to establish and uphold an accessibility initiative? On-campus accessibility should be a campus-wide, shared responsibility, but it can be daunting to think about where to begin. Over the last five years, Oklahoma ABLE Tech has worked with over 20 institutions across Oklahoma to build an ambitious project focused on accessibility in higher education. They’ve worked to identify the roles and responsibilities of the many departments in a university that touch accessibility. In this webinar, Rob Carr, the Accessibility Coordinator at Oklahoma ABLE Tech, will present on the various jobs and responsibilities that are required in implementing a well-rounded accessibility program. He'll also provide you with the necessary tools to begin conversations for a campus-wide accessibility initiative. Topics will include: Where to begin your journey towards accessibility compliance Roles and responsibilities required for implementing an accessibility initiative How to frame the conversation to illustrate the campus-wide necessity for accessibility

With increased complaints and legal action for organisations of inaccessible websites (Coles, Peapod) and apps (Westpac), now is the time for all web and app Project Managers, Developers, UX/Designers, Content Producers, Business Analysts and Testers to be ‘baking in’ accessibility into processes and work practices. This presentation will show that accessibility is everyone’s responsibility and it is not difficult to get started or find resources that will help you and your team produce a website, app or digital presence that works for everyone!

As a digital accessibility consultant and trainer, I often get asked about accessibility regulations and best practices when it comes to videos and live events - especially now that so many conferences and meetings have gone virtual. As we embrace our new normal - what should we consider when it comes to creating videos and live streaming events with inclusivity in mind? What does accessibility mean for multimedia?

When it comes to video captioning in higher ed, one of the biggest questions on campus is, "Who’s going to own this?" Is it the Disability Resource Center, the department creating or hosting the media, or the institution? At the University of Arizona (UA), the answer is: All the above. UA is moving towards a fully captioned campus through a prioritization approach. During this webinar, you'll learn how UA approaches captioning and the criteria used to determine allocation of funds for video captioning. Additionally, discover how successfully building trust and working closely with key personnel across campus units increases access to captioned media. Options for developing processes to ensure media are created accessibly across your campus will also be discussed. Topics this session will cover include: How UA approaches captioning and the criteria used to determine allocation of funds for captioning How successfully building trust and working closely with key personnel across campus increases access Options for developing processes to ensure media is created accessibly across campus

User experience is complex and multifaceted. One of those facets is making services usable to people in different situations. The needs of people with disabilities, both apparent and not, must be considered on our mobile and web platforms if we are to provide good service and abide by federal and state regulations. Cervone looks at some of the common accessibility issues people may have with mobile sites and websites and how to address those issues while still creating a visually stimulating and interactive environment for all.

Sara Mae O’Brien Scott and Tatiana Baquero Cakici, Senior Consultants at Enterprise Knowledge (EK), presented “AI Fast Track to Search-Focused AI Solutions” at the Information Architecture Conference (IAC24) that took place on April 11, 2024 in Seattle, WA. In their presentation, O’Brien-Scott and Cakici focused on what Enterprise AI is, why it is important, and what it takes to empower organizations to get started on a search-based AI journey and stay on track. The presentation explored the complexities of enterprise search challenges and how IA principles can be leveraged to provide AI solutions through the use of a semantic layer. O’Brien-Scott and Cakici showcased a case study where a taxonomy, an ontology, and a knowledge graph were used to structure content at a healthcare workforce solutions organization, providing personalized content recommendations and increasing content findability. In this session, participants gained insights about the following: Most common types of AI categories and use cases; Recommended steps to design and implement taxonomies and ontologies, ensuring they evolve effectively and support the organization’s search objectives; Taxonomy and ontology design considerations and best practices; Real-world AI applications that illustrated the value of taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs; and Tools, roles, and skills to design and implement AI-powered search solutions.

Microsoft's Threat Matrix for Kubernetes helps organizations understand the attack surface a Kubernetes deployment introduces to their environments. This ensures that adequate detections and mitigations are in place. By covering over 40 different attacker techniques, defenders can learn about Kubernetes-specific mitigations and controls to deploy to their environments. In this session, we will explore the MS-TA9013 Host Path Mount technique, which is commonly used by attackers to perform privilege escalation in a Kubernetes cluster. Attendees will learn how attackers and defenders can: * Escape the container's host volume mount to gain persistence on an underlying node * Move laterally from the underlying node into the customer's cloud environment * Analyze Kubernetes audit logs to detect pods deployed with a hostPath mount * Deploy an admission controller that prevents new pods from using a hostPath mount

Enterprise Knowledge’s Urmi Majumder, Principal Data Architecture Consultant, and Fernando Aguilar Islas, Senior Data Science Consultant, presented "Driving Behavioral Change for Information Management through Data-Driven Green Strategy" on March 27, 2024 at Enterprise Data World (EDW) in Orlando, Florida. In this presentation, Urmi and Fernando discussed a case study describing how the information management division in a large supply chain organization drove user behavior change through awareness of the carbon footprint of their duplicated and near-duplicated content, identified via advanced data analytics. Check out their presentation to gain valuable perspectives on utilizing data-driven strategies to influence positive behavioral shifts and support sustainability initiatives within your organization. In this session, participants gained answers to the following questions: - What is a Green Information Management (IM) Strategy, and why should you have one? - How can Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) support your Green IM Strategy through content deduplication? - How can an organization use insights into their data to influence employee behavior for IM? - How can you reap additional benefits from content reduction that go beyond Green IM?
