TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH: BLOG POLLS PROVIDE KEY INSIGHTS
1. TARGET AUDIENCE
RESEARCH
Now I have decided on my target audience I need to do some
target audience into the types of things my target audience
find interesting within music videos.
2. TYPES OF RESEARCH
Quantitative research is research can be measured. Facts, data and information can be
counted to produce numerical and statistical data. This data is usually presented in
graphs or charts.
Qualitative research is research that has information. Based around peoples opinions
and views. This research can then be produced into many thing. A good way of
collecting this data is through interviews.
Primary research is research which has never been carried out before. For example
the person doing the research will go out and do the interviews, conduct the
questionnaires.
Secondary research is analysing information which has already been gathered through
another individuals primary research. For example searching something on Google.
3. BLOG POLLS
Firstly I decided on some questions to put into blog polls and post them on
the left hand side of my blog for people who visit my blog to answer.
The questions are: What is your favourite music genre? What do you think
makes a music video most interesting in regards to these answers? How often
do you watch music videos? Where do you watch music videos?
4. BLOG POLLS
I set the closing date on my blog poll as 8th November 2013. I believed that a week was
long enough for people to answer my bog polls. Due to the fact that some of the answers
on my blog posts were media only related I needed people who take media to answer
them . Because of this I emailed out all of the A2 Media classes and asked them to take
the polls with the offer that I will return the favour because they too needed audience
research. 11 people in total answered my blog polls.
5. BLOG POLLS
Question one: What is your favourite music genre?
I chose to ask this question due to the fact that I need to know how many
people are in m target audience and are answering these questions. It turns out
that five people in total chose RNB as their favourite. This shows that five out
of the eleven people who answered
my blog polls were in my target audience.
6. BLOG POLLS
Question two: What do you think makes a music video most interesting in
regards to these answers?
I presumed that the people answering my blog polls were going to know what
the answers were which is why I chose to
ask this question. I found the answers
interesting and have decided to
concentrate for now on researching
more about mise-en-scene as this
was the most popular answer.
7. BLOG POLLS
Question three: How often do you watch music videos per week?
I asked this question because I was genuinely interested in how often people watch
music videos. However this will come in helpful when I do research into existing
music videos based around getting bullied.
This is because it is likely that my audience will
have watched one or two of the music videos
I wish to analyse. The most popular answer
was 0-10 times per week this shows that my
target audience don’t watch music videos as
often as I thought they did.
8. BLOG POLLS
Question four: Where do you watch music videos?
I asked this question as I wanted to find out how much attention my target
audience will be paying to my music video whilst they are watching it.
Obviously my if my target audience are watching
my music video in a relaxed environment then
they will be more relaxed and won’t want
to pay much attention to the music video
this means I will make it easy to follow.
9. BLOG POLLS
These blog posts have gathered quantitative research. Because of this research I
have come to the conclusion that I am going to do a lot more research into mise-enscene ideas. This is because on question 64% of people sais that they thought miseen-scene was most interesting when they watch music videos. On question three I
learnt that 55% of my target audience watch music videos 0-10 times per week.
This means that my music video must stand out to the target audience in order for
my music video to be one of the 0-10 that they watch. I have also found that my
music video needs to be easy to follow. This is because on question four 55% of my
target audience said that they watch music videos at home rather than at college and
when travelling. This means that when my target audience are relaxing they must be
easily be able to follow the narrative.
