I’m a believer in magic … as a child i enjoyed escaping real life with magical stories of enchanted inventions. I would pull a part all of electronics to see how they worked and then tried putting them back together to see if I could magically make them work again. and i believe sometimes fiction like the jetsons, harry potter, and star trek has driven us to design and connect things and create enchanted experiences.
and we are in moving through a great time of inventions that are interconnected.
from my love of fantasy and fiction to my love of facts and data. internet of Things is a network of uniquely identifiable and interoperable objects
The potential market size is so big because the IoT is about increasing efficiency, as well as creating new profits.
In 1973, the American sociologist Daniel Bell, in his book, The Coming of the Post Industrial Society [pdf], predicted that advanced societies would change from being based on manufacturing of goods to ones in which knowledge workers would occupy a central position.
This did happen, but because of the meteoric rise of information technology, the development of the Internet, and the widespread adoption of cellphones, the change has been far beyond expectations. These technologies are changing not only society, but the economic models on which society is based.

The gold standard for the IoT is making magic Making the user feel like it was designed just for them it should leave them feeling unique it should feel embedded and elegant it should have extraordinary capabilities it should offer a sense of wonderment and wanderlust
Let me show you what I mean when I mean by enhancing moments of truth with beautifully enchanted expereinces. One retailer asks mirror mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all….Neiman Marcus says you and only you.
Neiman Marcus has introduced the Smart Mirror from MemoMi Labs in to its Walnut Creek, California store, and has plans to install more in their San Francisco and Dallas stores

This Gesture-Controlled Stones Assist Those with Physical Challenges
Smartstones are mini and wearable tech that facilitate remote communication http://www.smartstones.co/
This durable “stone” the size of a worry rock is packed with LED lights, a gesture recognition library, touch interface, gyroscope, speakers and Bluetooth connectivity. Though a smartphone isn’t required for use, it interfaces with an app that lets the user and his-her loved ones program it to respond to specific gestures.
For example, the stone could be programmed to text a loved one “thinking of you” when tapped twice, or “feeling anxious” if rubbed with a thumb. Other gestures and combinations of gestures it recognizes include swipes, taps and shakes. It also includes a GPS tracker so loved ones can respond to a call for help.
Current models of the stone can be worn as pendants, or on a wrist band. The accompanying app is designed securely to keep communication private.
Backer rewards for the Indiegogo campaign include pre-orders at one for $79 and $149 for two, listed as 40 percent off the projected retail price. A pendant necklace reward comes for $39 and a leather cuff arm bracelet costs $49.
Mary Poppins Magic bag seemed like it could do anything. But could it be used to improve the travel experience in the age of the Internet of things?
Bluesmart The World's First Smart Connected Carry-on Suitcase The Bluesmart carry-on connects to your smartphone, enabling features that will forever change the way you travel. We all know nothing can ruin a trip like losing your luggage and its contents. Put your mind at ease knowing that you can lock your suitcase via your smartphone; if you get separated from your Bluesmart, it will lock automatically. Access can be shared with people you trust, and you will be notified anytime someone attempts to open the suitcase. The Bluesmart Travel Sentry® Approved Lock will be accepted by the TSA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJnvx7IhAmk https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bluesmart-world-s-first-smart-connected-carry-on

Today the quantify employee and the consumer produces gigs of data designing interfaces for data is critical and understanding how to serve that data up with radical simplicity is of importance. if it takes a degree in economics to view an account balance you have missed the mark and the mindset.
enchanted experiences - principle: design with data The data can act as a crystal ball in to the users unmet needs which for me are always opportunities for design. its those points in time that show friction and or frustration - a every great fortune teller can tell you need empathy and truth to envision the future.
Assume user’s attention to your device is low • Deliver single and complete ambient information • Take advantage of user’s behavior in the environment to both scale information and lower friction.

make sure that a moment of truth becomes magical with data • Data without purpose is quantified noise. • Sense making + Story telling• Deliver insight + foresight!

From Paper to Prototype - Karten Design
First Moment of Truth (FMOT)—that moment when a consumer walks into a store, faced with several comparable products and has to make a decision. They pick up MP3 player one, MP3 player two, hold them in their hands and, in that FMOT, decide which one they will purchase. In a world where many products are relatively similar in terms of technology, price, performance and features, design is that differentiator. That differentiator is what companies like Karten Design try to create. "How do you get mindshare? How do you stand out? How do you create "sticky" stuff?
