2. WHO, WHER E & W H E N ?
Flashpoint, The Academy of Media Arts and Sciences, is the
largest digital media college in the United States focusing
exclusively on the technologies of tomorrow and it’s located
right next to City Hall in the Loop. Starting in April, Flashpoint
will offer eight and sixteen week courses (on Fridays and
Saturdays) for a limited number of adult learners preparing
them to become Digievangelists and leaders in the digital
revolution.
W HAT’S A DIG I E VA N G E L I S T ?
Not a geek. Not a techy. A Digievangelist is a good writer
and communicator who’s also the “go-to” person in every
organization to get “your story and your stuff” on the Web.
Skilled in texting, tweeting, blogging, social networking, wikis,
instant messaging, yelping, viral everything and much more.
Trained in the many powerful business and marketing uses
of the Internet including customer acquisition, surveys &
management; community, traffic & brand building;
e-commerce & key word strategies; and even SEM and SEO
basics. Comfortable with web metrics, real-time search,
augmented reality, video in print, and whatever else tomorrow
brings.
WH Y ?
Flashpoint Academy is participating in Mayor Daley’s Chicago
Career Tech retraining program. We are focusing exclusively
on helping a talented group of serious adults learn the new
skills, tools and technologies that EVERY business and
corporation will need for the next decade. And we have
developed short, effective and focused programs to train
adults who are already effective writers and communicators in
just the crucial skills needed to join the digital revolution.
Every single company in America is already concerned about
the essential migration of their media and marketing to the
Internet, but millions of these companies don’t have the
people, the expertise or the ability to make it happen without
help. And that help can come from you. The Web is the new
front door for businesses, but they’ve got to be there to
participate and they need to hire employees (or consultants)
right now to help make sure that they aren’t left behind.

4. F R E Q U E N T LY A S K E D
QUESTIONS
DO I NEED A TECHNOLOGY
BACKGROUND?
No. A college degree would be helpful and some
actual work experience is desirable, but all of the
training in these programs is “pro-consumer” level
training, not technical training. These are NOT
programs in web design or website construction,
etc.
HOW MANY HOURS A WEEK ARE THE
PROGRAMS?
The programs will be held on Fridays and
Saturdays each week and the sessions on each of
the two days will be between 6 and 8 hours.
DO I NEED TO BUY ANY EQUIPMENT?
No. A laptop would be helpful as would having a
computer at home connected to the Internet, but
all the online training will be on computers already
installed in Flashpoint Academy labs and
classrooms.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE
PROGRAM(S)?
If you work hard and invest the necessary
additional research and exploration time on your
own, you will complete the program(s) with a set of
basic digital marketing skills that will offer real and
immediate value to large and small businesses
everywhere. Combined with your prior training and
education, these program(s) should enhance your
resume and make you a more attractive candidate
for employment.
