- Over the past year, MDMA – Ecstasy (3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine) has become one of the most popular drugs of abuse within the United States. (click) Referred to as the “Love Drug” or “Hug Drug”, (click) Ecstasy is usually found in tablet configuration. In the odd instance, it can be found in capsule form. (click) The tablets are multicolored (click) and usually have some “designer” insignia stamped into the tablet themselves. These insignias can take on popular images like the Mitsubishi car logo, SEX, CK of Calvin Klein, 007, Superman, etc. There are over 1,000 insignias that have been identified to date within the United States. Ecstasy can easily be differentiated from Barbiturates and other pharmaceuticals by the use of these insignias versus the standard manufacturers name, brand names or number/letter configurations found on pharmaceutical products. There will be instances where the tablets have no insignias whatsoever. Understand that Ecstasy is manufactured through clandestine labs mainly in Europe since tablet machines are readily available in Europe. After the powder is made there, they complete the process by pressing the final product. However, in the United States, tablet machines are closely regulated by the Federal Government. Due to these restrictions, clandestine manufactured Ecstasy in this country tends to be completely plain. The amount of Ecstasy manufactured in the U.S. is very low (5 – 10%) versus the European manufactured product. (click)
- Ecstasy has a number of euphoric effects on users. These include: heightened sensitivity, increased energy level, dehydration, and the raising of body temperature to 104 °. Upon taking Ecstasy, you will see the tendency toward touching, stroking and massaging one another. Even though this is more closely associated with foreplay, these tendencies will be seen in groups of users as well as couples (men/men, women/women or men/women) who simply want to “feel good” and have no sexual interest or attraction to the ones they are stroking or massaging. Due to the dehydration, large quantities of water will be consumed. Very little beer, wine or liquor will be present or consumed at a Rave party. To stop the grinding of teeth, users will suck on lollypops, baby pacifiers or candy necklaces. Young women will carry various small girl items (i.e. small plastic purses) and the dress culture will be unique to Ecstasy users. Once an individual consumes Ecstasy, their body temperature will rise from the normal 98.6° to 104° immediately. This increase in body heat is the reason for the dehydration and the consumption of large amounts of water. The water acts as a natural air conditioner to the body. You will also witness the use of Vicks VapoRub in either the inhaler or smeared inside particle masks. By inhaling the VapoRub, it further enhances the sensitivity to touch as well as give the user the illusion of cooling the body. (click)
- The reason for the physiological reaction to Ecstasy stems from the substance stimulating the release of SEROTONIN from the brain. Serotonin controls four main functions within the body: sleeping habits, eating habits, sexual habits and memory loss. Once the Serotonin is released, it takes an extended period of time to build back up. If Ecstasy is used regularly, the Serotonin does not have an opportunity to replenish properly causing a deficiency in the number of memory cells being developed. This causes the memory loss and inability of young people to learn and remember. (click)

This site will cover legal use, illegal use, history of the substances and visual appearances of these substances. An excellent educational site. Dancesafe on the other hand is a specific site dealing with MDMA (Ecstasy), PMA and the other Club Drugs only. This site will answer many specific questions about how Ecstasy works. Unfortunately, it will also invite browsers to send money to receive home tests or to advise users to invite Dancesafe to attend their Rave parties to test their Ecstasy. Lycaeum.org is a general site covering all substances, their manufacturing processes, recipes, talk sites, experiences and photo albums of labs and cooking methods. (click)
