2. Basic Rules
• All lines after the first line of each entry in your
reference list should be indented one-half inch from
the left margin. This is called hanging indentation.
o Go to format and under paragraph choose hanging.

• Authors' names are inverted, last name and initials
for all authors of a particular work.
o Last name first and first name last

• Should be alphabetized by the last name.
o Within your bibliography you want to organize each listing into alphabetic
order using the last name of the author.

o All important words need to be capitalised in journal titles need
capitalized to show importance.

• Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of a
title and subtitle in referring to books, chapters,
articles, or Web pages.

• Italicize titles of longer works such as books and
journals
o It is important to make sure that series or weekly magazines should be
italicized.
