Answer: Assessment
a process of gathering information about students.
a way to demonstrate program effectiveness.
focused on student learning and developmental outcomes.
When the cook tastes the soup, that is formative.
When the guests tastes the soup, that is summative.
When the cook goes to the grocery store, that is pre-assessment.
Summative assessment of the plants is the process of simply measuring them. It might be
interesting to compare and analyze measurements but, in themselves, these do not affect the
growth of the plants.
Formative assessment, on the other hand, is the equivalent of feeding and watering the
plants appropriate to their needs - directly affecting their growth.
Answer: Active Learning
Students have different learning styles and develop at different rates.
We use a broad range of strategies to accommodate student’s needs.
We analyze and appreciate different cultures and ways of learning.
We reflect on every stage of the learning and teaching process.
We show evidence of the student’s learning process to the school community.
We modify teaching methods and means of instruction.
We collaborate with other teachers and students.
The JIES staff uses:
Exemplars (Standards)- performance criteria with clear
expectations
Checklists- lists, information and attributes that should be
present.
Anecdotal Records – brief written notes that represent stages
of learning.
Continuums (Reading Levels)- these show a progression of
achievement or identify where the child is in the progress.
Observations- wide angles (whole class), up close (one activity)
or without participation or with participation.
Rubric- expectations generated with the teacher and students.
Responsibilities of the Teachers:
We maintain detailed assessment reports.
We analyse data about the students’ progress and
performance.
We also provide constructive feedback for future learning .
We have children work on their strengths and weaknesses.
We analyze learning and learning styles.
analysing their learning and understand the areas to be
improved.
 improving critical thinking skills.
reflect upon learning.
producing quality work.

 Keeping informed about your child.

  • 5. When the cook tastes the soup, that is formative. When the guests tastes the soup, that is summative. When the cook goes to the grocery store, that is pre-assessment.
  • 6. Summative assessment of the plants is the process of simply measuring them. It might be interesting to compare and analyze measurements but, in themselves, these do not affect the growth of the plants. Formative assessment, on the other hand, is the equivalent of feeding and watering the plants appropriate to their needs - directly affecting their growth.

  • 10. Students have different learning styles and develop at different rates. We use a broad range of strategies to accommodate student’s needs. We analyze and appreciate different cultures and ways of learning. We reflect on every stage of the learning and teaching process. We show evidence of the student’s learning process to the school community. We modify teaching methods and means of instruction. We collaborate with other teachers and students.

The JIES staff uses: Exemplars (Standards)- performance criteria with clear expectations Checklists- lists, information and attributes that should be present. Anecdotal Records – brief written notes that represent stages of learning. Continuums (Reading Levels)- these show a progression of achievement or identify where the child is in the progress. Observations- wide angles (whole class), up close (one activity) or without participation or with participation. Rubric- expectations generated with the teacher and students.

Responsibilities of the Teachers: We maintain detailed assessment reports. We analyse data about the students’ progress and performance. We also provide constructive feedback for future learning . We have children work on their strengths and weaknesses. We analyze learning and learning styles.
